Prominently, often a threat, speaking two pyres, losing a gold turtle, and a mobile pestle, a mouth of Yom Kippur, a kind of track.
🎭 in Thai circles, there are often bad jokes that say, "Where is good? Where is good? It is good in fiction."
This is not only the murmur of the discouraged, but a social science phenomenon with a firm explanation.
Many times we see a very determined person, as in the case of a good person in an organization, giving good information to the media, facing being "screwed up" or reputation-busting, when he is trying to make something better happen.
While some groups live on "stillness," or worse, "image," to be better than their eyes, they are preserved.
We will shatter this painful truth through three psychological dimensions that make us understand why Thai society is like this.
🌷✂️ The First Dimension: Too Dominant Flowers and Moral Threats
The beginning of the rupture often comes from something called Tall Poppy Syndrome. This theory explains that in a poppy field, the flowers that hold their necks higher than anyone's friends are often cut away by scissors to make everything "equal."
When placed on a Thai social context that values harmony, anyone who stands out with new abilities or technologies is often seen as a disruptor of peace.
What is even more interesting is the Do-Gooder Derogation Theory by Julia Minson and Benoà t Monin (2012), which states that your goodness or intention is not just a work, but a "judgment" against your peers without your intention.
When you're diligent, you're implying that others are lazy, when you're honest, you're saying that others cheat to reduce their feelings of guilt.
So those around you have to find a way to drag the gut, or mislead you, to prove to society that "they're not really good," so that they can go back to their sloth at ease.
😶🛡️ Second Dimension: Security in Stagnation and Bias from Overlook
We often wonder why people who "do nothing" are never cursed and sometimes promoted? The answer is hidden in a bias called Omission Bias.
Which was deeply studied by Max Messick (1992), this theory suggests that humans are more likely to judge guilt by "action" than by "neglect."
In a Thai society that focuses on being "active," the person who is silent becomes the safest person, because when you do nothing, you have no mistake for anyone to catch.
So inaction is misinterpreted as "calm" or "prudent," while it is driven by people.
There are wounds full of trial and error, and they are the targets of critics who have never actually taken the field.
This phenomenon causes the brain to drain, because real workers will start to learn that "not moving is the most stable state."
😇✨ The Third Dimension: The Maya of the Mask and the Triumph of the Turners
The most painful part of Thai society is seeing "evil people create images" well. This is the result of a dark personality group called the Dark Triad.
Specifically, Machiavellianism, by the definition of Paulhus and Williams (2002), this group of people do not spend their energy on "work," but on "impression management."
We understand that Thai society is defeated by the Halo Effect by simply expressing gratitude, entering a monastery, or speaking humbly.
Society would immediately be ready to "close one eye" to fraudulent behavior or inefficiency behind it.
While results-oriented workers are often so outspoken that they are considered "arrogant" or "hard to reach."
Finally, beautiful masks often receive applause louder than sweat pouring in dark corners.
🎋🌈 The conclusion and escape of the real man.
The lessons of case studies teach us that in these psychologically biased societies, "goodness" alone may not be an adequate shield.
We need to learn to communicate our values strategically (Strategic Communication) and build networks of real workers as a shield against each other.
Don't let the scissors of jealousy cut the top of your intentions, but learn to grow into bamboo clumps with strong fiber roots.
Even if the wind of gossip blows, your peak may follow the wind, but you will never be overthrown and will remain enduring in an area worthy of you.
