✨Officially no longer “Obese”✨
While I know the BMI calculator is bull shit, and I’m now just considered “overweight” in the eyes of the medical community! I’m officially 87.2lbs down and 34 pounds from my end goal!
Reaching this incredible milestone, officially moving from the 'obese' BMI category to 'overweight,' feels absolutely monumental! I still look at my weight tracking graph and remember seeing that starting point of 174.2 lbs, and how daunting the journey seemed. But here I am, 87.2 pounds lighter, and just 34 pounds away from my ultimate goal. It’s a moment of pure celebration and a testament to consistent effort. I know a lot of people, myself included, have mixed feelings about the BMI calculator. It's often called 'bullshit' because it doesn't account for individual body composition, muscle mass, or overall health beyond a number. However, for a lot of us, it’s still the metric doctors use, and seeing that official classification change from 'obese' to 'overweight' was an incredibly powerful motivator. It confirmed that all the small, consistent changes I was making were truly paying off. So, how did I get here? It wasn't about any magic bullet or extreme diet. My approach focused on sustainable lifestyle shifts. I started by making conscious choices about what I was eating – prioritizing whole, unprocessed foods, increasing my protein intake, and staying hydrated. Meal prepping became my best friend, helping me stay on track even on busy days. Exercise also became a non-negotiable part of my routine, but I made sure it was something I genuinely enjoyed, whether it was brisk walks, dancing, or light strength training. The key was to find activities that felt like a reward, not a punishment. The journey definitely wasn't linear; there were weeks when the scale barely budged, and moments of frustration were common. But looking at my weight tracking graph, seeing the overall downward trend, especially hitting 174.2 lbs and crossing into the 'overweight' category on January 1st, kept me focused. It's so important to celebrate every tiny victory along the way. Learning to tune into my body's hunger cues and practicing mindful eating also played a huge role in transforming my relationship with food. Now, as I look ahead to losing those final 34 pounds, my focus is shifting slightly. It's no longer just about the number on the scale, but about building a truly sustainable, healthy lifestyle for the long term. This means continuing to explore new healthy recipes, trying different exercise routines to keep things interesting, and prioritizing my mental well-being alongside the physical. This journey has taught me so much about resilience, self-compassion, and the incredible power we have to transform our own health. If you're on a similar path, remember that every single step counts, and you are capable of amazing things!
