Well, that just adds another layer of complexity to finding time for anything for yourself, let alone fitness. I totally get it. For years, I told myself I was too old, too tired, too busy. But then I realized: if I keep telling myself that, nothing will change. So, I decided to make a shift, starting with something incredibly simple: my trusty Stepper. You might be thinking, 'A stepper? Really?' But trust me, this little machine has been a game-changer. It's compact, affordable, and I can literally pull it out in my living room. There's no travel time to a gym, no fancy equipment needed, and best of all, I can squeeze in a workout whenever I have a spare minute – and I mean *a minute*. My journey started exactly as I suggested: just one minute a day. Seriously! While my toddlers were playing with blocks, or during that precious few minutes when they were absorbed in a cartoon, I'd hop on. The goal wasn't to break a sweat initially, but just to keep moving my body. I'd put on some upbeat music, sometimes just step in silence, focusing on my breathing. Slowly, that minute turned into two, then five, then ten. Now, I aim for 15-20 minutes most days, broken up into smaller chunks if that's all I can manage. Even if it's just a quick five-minute burst while dinner is simmering, it counts. The beauty of the stepper is how efficiently it works. It's a great low-impact cardio workout that gets your heart rate up without jarring your joints – a definite plus as we get older! And yes, I’ve definitely seen the pounds shed over time, but honestly, the biggest benefits have been the boost in my energy levels and my mental clarity. Those moments on the stepper are my time, a chance to clear my head and release some stress. It’s amazing how much better I feel dealing with toddler tantrums after a quick session. For my fellow busy moms, especially those of us navigating fitness in our 40s and beyond, here are a few tips I've learned: Start ridiculously small: Don't aim for an hour. Aim for 5 minutes, or even just 60 seconds. Consistency beats intensity when you're starting out. Integrate it: Don't wait for free time; create it. Can you step while waiting for coffee to brew? While on a phone call? During commercial breaks? Make it accessible: Keep your stepper, or whatever equipment you use, in an easily accessible spot. Out of sight, out of mind is real. Find your 'why': My 'why' isn't just about weight anymore; it's about being able to keep up with my kids, having more energy, and feeling strong as I age. Be kind to yourself: Some days you’ll crush it, some days you won't. That’s okay. Just get back on tomorrow. Every step literally adds up. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about making a consistent effort, no matter how small. Our bodies change as we age, but that doesn't mean we can't be fit and strong. So, next time you think you don't have time, remember: if this 46-year-old mom of toddlers can find a minute, you absolutely can too. Just keep moving!
