The journey I had with this book from start to finish was so incredibly rewarding. The six months after being chosen to join Team Stardust up to receiving this gorgeous ARC, was a build up of excitement and had to do mostly with getting to know Venetia and her 40+ years journey to the making of TLSS. The labor of love she has put into this book/series is a lifetime of creation. I first heard its quest was like The Lord Of The Rings, and while that held true, I feel honored that I was able to absorb this story with the knowledge of the authors inspiration and personal life endeavors that ultimately translated into the wonderful world of Arcelia.
This was the epic fantasy of my dreams. I have not felt this invested in a books lore and world since TOG. I need a new word for obsessed because I’m beyond that. There are two POVs and one felt like the readers seat and there were moments of confirmation to my own reading experience which was so brilliantly done on the authors part. These characters are so complex and their personalities shine as bright as the stars. There were so many cinematic visual moments that had me escape into the world and I never wanted to leave. It gave that 80s fantasy film aesthetic which I’ve come to appreciate the nostalgia and had that same ethereal feeling when I read Wild Reverence last year. The ending to this sets up the rest of the series and I can’t stop theorizing and being so thrilled to see its full completion.
While I anticipate the next book I have my preorder of the finished copy to look forward to and a team read which I know the second time will hit different.
I highly recommend this to romantasy readers who want to get into epic high fantasy and vise versa. I think it falls in the middle of those two ! Infinity ⭐️s
Congratulations on your debut @venetiaconstantine and thank you for having me on your team. Thank you to @bloomsburybooksus for the gifted ARC.
... Read moreStepping into the world of Arcelia with 'The Last Starborn Seer' was an experience I won't soon forget. As an avid reader of both epic high fantasy and heartwarming romantasy, I can genuinely say this book perfectly bridges the two genres, offering something truly special.
Many of us romantasy readers often wonder about the heat level in a new series, and I’ve had many questions about whether 'The Last Starborn Seer' is spicy. While I won't give away specific scenes to avoid spoilers, I'd describe the romance as a beautifully simmering intensity that develops organically throughout the story. It’s not the most overtly explicit book out there, but it certainly has its moments of passionate connection that feel deeply earned and integral to the plot. Think more emotional depth and growing intimacy rather than instant, graphic encounters. It feels perfectly balanced for a grand epic with romantic elements, adding layers of connection without overshadowing the incredible adventure. The character development truly allows you to invest in their relationships.
What truly sets this book apart is its intricate world-building and character depth. From the moment you meet characters like Leilani Stellarion and witness her powerful Starborn magic, you're swept into a realm brimming with ancient prophecies and a quest for a mysterious ancient relic. The dual POVs are masterfully done, offering such rich insights and making you feel deeply connected to their journeys and the unfolding mysteries. The way the magic system is woven into the very fabric of society is just mesmerizing, giving a truly fresh feel to a familiar genre. I found myself completely lost in the lore, which is something I haven't felt so strongly since my early days with The Lord of the Rings and *Throne of Glass*.
Speaking of immersion, the visual storytelling is absolutely breathtaking. I found myself picturing epic landscapes and celestial phenomena, much like the gorgeous starry night cover featuring mountains and hints of two magi. It definitely evoked that classic 80s fantasy film aesthetic, which I adore. Imagine reading this with a lit candle beside you, as I often did, enhancing that magical atmosphere and feeling completely detached from the real world. It’s the kind of book that makes you forget your surroundings.
For those of us who love to collect, the buzz around 'The Last Starborn Seer' already has me dreaming of future special editions. If you're like me, you're probably hoping for sprayed edges, perhaps some stunning interior art depicting key scenes or characters, or maybe even an exclusive novella from another character's perspective. Bonus content, like detailed maps of Arcelia or character art, would be incredible additions to truly celebrate this debut. It's definitely the kind of book that deserves a beautiful, cherished physical copy proudly displayed on your shelf.
If you're hesitating, don't! This is a perfect bridge for high fantasy readers venturing into romantasy, or vice versa. It truly sits at the crossroads of grand adventure and heartfelt connection, offering everything you could want in a new series. I'm already counting down the days until the next installment and eagerly awaiting my own finished copy. Pre-ordering is a must for any fantasy fan!
