Lady Tremaine 💐 Revived Review

I’m going to start reviving reviews from books I’m still completely obsessed with. Ones that have been on my mind since reading the ARC. Now getting the finished copy, I thought to add in a little personal note.

In my original review, I did mention that this one resonated with me as a mother. Lady Tremaine raised her daughters without a mother like myself, so it really reflected on some parts of my own motherhood journey. Growing up in foster care, fairytales like Cinderella hit home with me, so reading this through the untelling perspective of the stepmother was very cathartic. I just love when a book sneaks up on you like that and clicks in places you haven’t looked into for a long time. This is where reading has had such a huge impact on my mental health and it’s such a powerful way to move through areas of continuous healing.

📩 : Would you start reviving reviews or do you already do so ?

... Read moreRevisiting a book that profoundly impacts you is truly special, and for me, Rachel Hochhauser’s 'Lady Tremaine' is exactly that kind of read. It’s not just another fairytale retelling; it’s a deep dive into the complex motivations behind a character often villainized, and it resonated with me on a remarkably personal level. When I first picked up 'Lady Tremaine', I was expecting a fresh take on the Cinderella story, but what I found was a mirror reflecting aspects of my own motherhood journey. The author skillfully portrays Lady Tremaine as a mother raising her daughters in challenging circumstances. This common thread made Tremaine's struggles and fierce determination to provide stability for her girls incredibly relatable. It challenges the conventional narrative, making you see a 'villain' through a lens of profound empathy. Growing up, fairytales like Cinderella were often a bittersweet escape, especially having experienced life in foster care. The idea of a stepmother figure was always fraught with preconceived notions. Yet, Hochhauser's novel provided unexpected catharsis. Reading the story from the stepmother’s untold perspective allowed me to explore themes of resilience, sacrifice, and the often-misunderstood layers of a woman's character. It made me ponder the "wrath of a woman" not as pure malice, but as a potential byproduct of protection and survival. This exploration of complex emotions is where the book truly shines, offering a powerful sense of healing. The quotes highlighted in the OCR, such as "One should never underestimate a lady's ability for metamorphosis," perfectly encapsulate the essence of this book. It's about transformation, seeing beyond the surface, and understanding the profound strength inherent in a mother's selfless nature. This particular retelling has had a significant impact on my mental health, showing how powerful literature can be for continuous healing. It encourages readers to look deeper, challenge their perceptions, and find empathy in unexpected places. If you're searching for a 'Lady Tremaine review' because you're curious about this reimagining, I wholeheartedly recommend it. It's for anyone who loves a fairytale retelling that offers more than just a new plot – it offers a new way of seeing. This novel invites reflection on what truly drives people, especially women under pressure, and how every story has multiple sides. It will stay with you long after you turn the final page, prompting you to reconsider classic narratives and perhaps, even aspects of your own life.
