McKelligan canyon
As someone who recently explored McKelligan Canyon, I can say it’s a fantastic spot for those who love nature and outdoor activities. Located in El Paso, TX, McKelligan Canyon offers a quiet escape from the city with its scenic hiking trails that cater to all levels—from easy walks to more challenging hikes. One of the things I enjoyed most was the diverse landscape, featuring rugged cliffs and shaded areas perfect for a picnic or simply to rest and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. It’s especially beautiful in the early morning or late afternoon when the lighting enhances the colors of the rock formations. If you’re planning a visit, I’d recommend bringing plenty of water and wearing good hiking shoes, as some parts of the trail can be rocky and uneven. Also, since the area is less crowded than other parks, it’s a great place for birdwatching or simply immersing yourself in the natural sounds and sights. For families or casual explorers, there are shorter paths that allow you to experience the canyon’s charm without a strenuous hike. Don’t forget your camera — the views provide excellent photo opportunities, especially overlooking El Paso’s skyline from certain vantage points. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, McKelligan Canyon is a hidden gem that showcases the unique desert landscape of the region. It’s perfect for a weekend escape, a workout, or some quiet time in nature. I highly recommend adding it to your must-visit list when in El Paso.
