... Read moreYou know those moments when a cosplay project feels like it just... exploded? Well, that was pretty much my studio today while working on my Emre Sarioğlu Overwatch cosplay! This is Pt. 2 of my build journey, and let me tell you, getting to this stage has been a wild ride. Today's 'explosion' wasn't literal, thankfully, but more of a chaotic breakthrough with a particularly tricky armor piece. I was deep into shaping the chest plate, trying to get those iconic curves just right, and let's just say a combination of stubborn EVA foam and a slightly too-hot heat gun resulted in a minor meltdown – both for the foam and my patience! One of the biggest hurdles with Emre's design is definitely his robust, almost industrial-looking armor. It requires a lot of careful layering and shaping to achieve that bulky yet battle-ready aesthetic. For this section, I’ve been focusing on the upper body and shoulder pieces. My go-to material has been 10mm EVA foam, which offers a good balance of durability and flexibility. However, getting the precise symmetrical curves and angles for Emre's gear can be a real test. I found that creating paper templates first, then transferring them to foam, is absolutely crucial. Even then, you'll spend hours with a Dremel and sanding blocks, refining every edge. Another aspect that often feels like it's 'exploding' in my workspace is the painting process. Emre's armor has a distinct, weathered look, which means multiple layers of base coat, shading, detailing, and then weathering effects. Today, I was experimenting with a new dry-brushing technique for some of the metallic accents, and let's just say it looked more like a Rorschach test than a hero's armor for a bit! My tip? Always test your paint colors and weathering techniques on scrap pieces first. It saves so much frustration (and repainting!). I also learned the hard way that ventilation is key when dealing with primers and sealants – almost 'exploded' from the fumes once! For those of you tackling your own Emre Sarioğlu cosplay, remember that patience is your best tool. Don't be afraid to step away for a bit if you hit a snag. I've found that some of my best ideas for overcoming challenges come when I'm taking a break. Whether it's figuring out how to attach those bulky shoulder pads securely without restricting movement, or getting the intricate details on his gauntlets just right, every step is a learning curve. This Pt. 2 update really highlights how much goes into seemingly small details. My goal is to make every piece look authentic and ready for the Overwatch battlefield. What part of Emre's design are you most excited to see come to life, or what's been your biggest cosplay challenge lately? Share your tips! I'm almost done with this stage, and the excitement is building!
