Sour-two

so the 2nd attempted was okay. much better than the first but still not perfect yet!

what i learned this round is

* My Dutch over is way too big

* my house is cold and i need to give it more time to rise

* make sure it's jiggling before baking

* adding ice in the Dutch over really helps a nice crust form

3rd attempt will be on Sunday! time permitting I may make bagels too!

... Read moreSourdough baking is an art that often requires practice and patience. In this article, I reflect on my recent sourdough experiences and the lessons learned along the way. One common challenge for beginner bakers is finding the right equipment; an oversized Dutch oven can hinder the process, causing dough to spread too thin. Additionally, dough needs warmth for proper fermentation, so a cold house can delay rising. To achieve a perfect crust on your sourdough, consider incorporating techniques such as adding ice to the Dutch oven. This creates steam, allowing the bread to develop a crispy exterior while the interior remains soft. Remember, patience is key! Allow the dough ample time to rise and check for the telltale jiggle—this indicates readiness for baking. As I gear up for my third sourdough attempt this Sunday, I’m also contemplating trying my hand at sourdough bagels. Exploring new recipes keeps the process exciting and provides a perfect opportunity to apply what I've learned. Whether you're a seasoned baker or just starting out, embracing the learning curve is essential in perfecting this artisanal skill. Happy baking!
