✨Christmas clean up!

While it's sad to say goodbye to the twinkling lights and festive decor, there's something so refreshing and necessary about decluttering and preparing for a fresh start. We'll miss you, Christmas, but it's time to reset our spaces for the year ahead. My first step is always tackling the 'Christmas stuff coming down.' This can feel overwhelming, so I break it down. I start by categorizing as I go: broken ornaments that need to be tossed, items to donate if they no longer fit our style, and treasured decorations for next year. Labeling storage boxes meticulously saves so much stress when November rolls around again! For outdoor lights, I always make sure they're completely dry before packing them away to prevent mildew and ensure they're ready for next season. Next up is often the most daunting part: the aftermath of all those wonderful Christmas dinner feasts. Oh, the dishes! My top tip here is to start with the dishes immediately after dinner if possible, or at least get them soaking in hot, soapy water. Don't let food sit overnight if you can help it. For stubborn baked-on grime on casserole dishes or roasting pans, a sprinkle of baking soda and a little vinegar can work wonders before you even pick up a scrub brush. I also pay special attention to my oven and microwave during this clean up, as they tend to take a significant beating during holiday cooking. Beyond the immediate holiday mess, I use this time to do a deeper 'declutter and get ready for the new year.' This means going through old toys, clothes, and anything that didn't get used or spark joy in the past year. It's not just about tidiness; it's about creating space—both physical and mental—for the new year. I find it really helps to open up space for any new gifts we received and just gives the house a lighter, more organized feel. I also do a thorough vacuum, dust all surfaces, and give the bathrooms a good scrub. It's a full home refresh, almost like a mini-spring clean after the festive chaos. To make the entire process less overwhelming, I break it down into small, manageable tasks. Instead of trying to do everything in one day, I dedicate an hour or two each day over a few days. Putting on some upbeat music or a fascinating podcast also makes the time fly by. And remember, it doesn't have to be absolutely perfect; a tidy, organized home is a happy home, and a great foundation for embracing the new year ahead!
