Ruining my MIL bathroom pt 1
My mother in law has a lot of houses (boomers are so lucky)
And this bathroom IS FUGLY.
The 90s were great but the decor… didn’t exist 😂.
So join me to turn it into fun!!!
Will she like it? She’s VERY OG German and picky. I’m nervous 😬

Renovating a bathroom that hasn't been updated since the 1990s can be quite the adventure, especially when it's a family member's home and they have strong tastes. My mother-in-law’s bathroom reflected its era—in a way that screams 90s style but not in a good way. With bold colors and outdated fixtures, it felt like stepping back into a different decade. When tackling this project, I knew it had to be budget-friendly but still fun and modern. One of the biggest challenges was respecting her traditional German roots since she is quite picky and has an OG aesthetic. Incorporating more contemporary elements like clean lines, soft colors, and subtle textures became a priority. This meant replacing heavy and bulky fixtures with sleek alternatives and adding hints of Scandinavian-inspired decor, which is often appreciated in German design for its simplicity and functionality. Besides the aesthetics, practical upgrades played a huge role in this renovation. Outdated tiles and poor lighting can make a space feel smaller and less inviting. Swapping out old light fixtures for warmer, layered lighting made a big impact, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Also, adding storage solutions that don’t clutter the space but keep the essentials handy helped keep things organized, which is always appreciated. A unique part of this renovation is incorporating ASMR elements—like the satisfying sounds of painting, tiling, and small renovations—to make the process immersive and relaxing for viewers interested in that experience. Being a part of someone’s home transformation is rewarding, especially when you aim to blend the old with the new in a way that respects their personality but adds freshness. I’m excited to continue this makeover journey and share how the final space turns out in upcoming posts. If you’re thinking of renovating on a budget but want to keep your in-laws happy, this project might inspire your own makeover ideas!
