I haven’t been vlogging my births but I’m back to it!! Left around 1:30pm got home at 12:15 am but documenting this BREECH home birth was worth it!! #birth #homebirth #birthphotographer @canonusa #canon5dmkiv #birthphotography #sanantonio #sanantonioinfluencer #sanantoniophotographer
The call came in, and my heart immediately quickened. It was time. That familiar rush of adrenaline always hits when I hear those words: "let's go photograph a birth!" Checking my gear, grabbing my Canon 5DMKIV, and hitting the road around 1:30 pm, I knew I was embarking on another incredible journey. But this one felt different; it was a home birth, and it was breech – a truly unique and powerful event to document. Driving through San Antonio, I reflected on the privilege of being invited into such an intimate space. A home birth already carries a special energy, focusing on comfort and familiarity, allowing the birthing person to feel safe and empowered in their chosen environment. A breech birth, where the baby presents feet or bottom first, adds another layer of awe and strength, showcasing the incredible resilience of both mother and baby, and the skilled care of the birth team. As a birth photographer, my role isn't just to take pictures, but to tell a story, to capture the raw emotions, the quiet strength, and the undeniable love that fills the room. Upon arrival, the atmosphere was calm yet electric. My approach is always to be a fly on the wall, observing and anticipating, ready to capture those fleeting, unrepeatable moments. The hours melted away, each one bringing us closer to the big reveal. I focused on the details: the supportive hands, the worried glances, the deep breaths, the unwavering connection between partners. It's a dance of patience and readiness, ensuring every significant moment – from the first contractions to the final pushes – is preserved without intrusion. The journey from "Driver" to "arrival" felt like a transition into a sacred space. The day stretched into night. From that 1:33 pm departure to the long wait, time became irrelevant. My focus was entirely on the family, immersed in their journey. Finally, just past midnight, around 12:15 am, the miracle unfolded. Witnessing a breech baby enter the world, gently and safely, in the comfort of their own home, was profoundly moving. The air filled with gasps of relief, tears of joy, and an overwhelming sense of LOVE. It's moments like these, when a new life takes its first breath, that remind me why these long, demanding sessions are always, always worth it. The background music, perhaps a quiet "Tenth Avenue North - To Mom, With Love" playing softly, just added to the sacredness of the moment. For anyone considering birth photography, either as a client or an aspiring photographer, I can't emphasize enough the profound impact it has. For families, these images become treasured heirlooms, a tangible memory of one of life's most transformative events. They capture the strength, the vulnerability, and the immense joy of welcoming a child. For photographers, it's a calling that requires sensitivity, skill, and an immense amount of dedication. You're not just taking photos; you're preserving history. It's about being present, respecting the space, and understanding that you are capturing a story of strength, vulnerability, and pure, unadulterated love. These are the narratives that deserve to be told, to be seen, and to be cherished forever.
