I’m not asking for advice

I think a lot of people might say it’s a great motivator to know that you want to have people over or even somebody to come in and do some kind of nonessential repair on something, and yes, sometimes that can happen. But other times there is so much to do first so that it’s easier not to have somebody come in until I get things cleared out more.

I just needed to talk about this in a place where I would not be judged. I live in a small place so when things get messy or if I’m trying to do some decluttering, which means that things get taken out of drawers or a closet, it’s super visible. And then if I don’t complete the task for a while, I am stuck in “Don’t-Enter-land” until I’m done. Can anyone relate?

... Read moreClutter can be a significant source of anxiety for many, especially in small living spaces where everything is highly visible. It's common to feel embarrassed about having guests over, leading to a cycle of avoidance. Decluttering can often mean a temporary mess before achieving a more organized space. Interestingly, many people experience this sense of overwhelm, making it a universal topic worth exploring. If you're dealing with clutter, taking small, manageable steps can help you reclaim your space and peace of mind. Consider breaking down decluttering tasks into achievable segments rather than attempting to tackle everything at once. Engage family or friends in the process, making it a more social and supportive experience. Additionally, discussing these feelings in online communities, like Lemon8, can provide moral support and practical tips from those who face similar challenges. Aim for progress over perfection, and remember that it's okay to ask for help or simply share your experiences with others.

Yes, there’s only one other person (not my husband) that I don’t mind having some laying around and that’s my mom. Other than that I feel the need to have a spotless house and then I’m stressing if it’s clean enough. I hate it

Absolutely! I’ve been declutterring for a whole year. It has taken that long to get brave enough to get ride of some of it! But it is so easy to clean my house and it looks way better.
