Your favorite part of the day? What happened?

A month or so back, I passed a second-floor window on my walk from the train to my apartment only to lock eyes with a tiny human, maybe 2 or 3, peeking out. I tossed her a quick wave, and her face lit up like a Christmas tree. That little smile turned my blah workday around instantly.

Next thing I knew, she was there the next afternoon, waving a fuzzy panda stuffed animal like it was her job. I hit her with a silly cross-eyed face, and her giggle carried all the way down to the sidewalk. By day three, she had a doll in hand, bouncing with excitement. Now it’s been months, our daily ritual. Sometimes she dances (tiny toddler spins, so cute!), sometimes her mom’s there, smiling and waving too.

I don’t know their names. We’ve never exchanged a word. But 5:15 PM? I’m practically rushing to that window. Turns out, she needed someone to notice her while mom’s busy with dinner and I needed that little burst of joy, since my apartment’s pretty quiet these days.

Have you ever stumbled into a wholesome stranger ritual that became your favorite part of the day?
