Wat Weluwanaram🇹🇭

Wat Weluwanaram is located in Bangkok Thailand. Please remember this is a temple so appropriate attire is required. Tattoos should be covered and women should wear modest outfits to make sure you’re not revealing anything offensive out of respect for the temple. While traveling I always try to respect culture standards because we are visitors. This Temple gave me an overwhelming feeling of peace like I never felt before. The monks here were super friendly and knowledgeable about social media to my surprise 😊. Every detail at this temple was painted by hand from a local artist which is so impressive. You had to been there to see the greatness of the artwork. You do not have to pay to get in this temple but they do have a donation box at the front which I made sure to add money to.Everybody please donate! I rate this temple overall a 10/10 due to the raw authentic feeling of peace I had while visiting, the friendly monks and the beautiful scenery. Sooo where to next 🤔🤔#thailandplaces #thailand🇹🇭 #temples #travellifestyle #blackgirltravel

... Read moreMy visit to Wat Weluwanaram in Bangkok was genuinely one of the most serene and inspiring experiences I've had. If you're planning a trip to Thailand and wondering which temples to prioritize, this one should definitely be on your list. Beyond the immediate sense of calm you feel upon entering, there are so many practical details and unique sights that make it unforgettable. First, let's talk about the practicalities. Many people ask about an entrance fee for Wat Weluwanaram, and I was pleasantly surprised to find there isn't one! However, you'll see a donation box right at the front, and I strongly encourage you to contribute. These donations are vital for the temple's upkeep and for supporting the resident monks. It’s a wonderful way to give back and ensure future visitors can enjoy its beauty. Regarding attire, it's crucial to dress respectfully. As with all temples in Thailand, modesty is key. For both men and women, ensure your shoulders and knees are covered. This means no tank tops, shorts, or mini-skirts. I made sure to wear a modest outfit, covering up any tattoos as a sign of respect, and I highly recommend you do the same. It’s part of honoring the local culture and the sacredness of the space. Now, for what you’ll actually see! The original post only hinted at the artistic detail, but let me tell you, every single part of this temple is a visual feast. The entire temple is filled with hand-painted masterpieces. I was absolutely mesmerized by the vibrant murals depicting celestial scenes and traditional narratives that adorned the walls and ceilings. Look out for the incredibly detailed floor paintings too – I walked over areas that looked exactly like water, complete with fish, lily pads, dolphins, and turtles! It truly felt like stepping into an underwater world. You'll also encounter magnificent statues, including impressive golden Buddha figures seated on ornate pedestals and multi-headed Naga statues, often guarding altars, just like the one I saw inside a cave section. The exterior itself is a work of art, with intricate golden carvings and multi-tiered roofs. Don't miss the chance to observe the unique mythical creatures depicted in the murals, like the large, open-mouthed giant I spotted – it's unlike anything else! The atmosphere is incredibly peaceful. I spent time observing people seated on the floor, some kneeling in quiet contemplation before the golden Buddha statue. You'll often find tables displaying offerings like incense sticks and beautiful floral arrangements, which add to the spiritual ambiance. The monks I met were not only friendly but also very approachable and knowledgeable, happy to share insights about their temple and even social media, which was a fun surprise! To make the most of your visit, I suggest going early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the midday heat and larger crowds. This will allow you to explore at your own pace and truly soak in the tranquility. Remember to be mindful of your surroundings, speak softly, and ask permission if you want to take photos of people. Overall, my experience at Wat Weluwanaram was a perfect 10/10, and I can't recommend it enough for anyone seeking a deeply authentic and peaceful cultural experience in Bangkok.
