Why I Became a Teacher 🍎

I remember having postpartum depression after having my son and trying to figure out what I wanted to do for a living. It was such a difficult time in my life because life was rapidly transitioning and I didn’t have the confidence to actually take myself seriously as an educator. Ten years later, here I am as a third grade teacher beating the odds of my old self-doubts! I don’t allow my insecurities get the best of me when it comes to following my dreams. Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to become a teacher when I grew up! I admired my grandmother, who taught for over 40 years. I thought it was the coolest thing ever! Watching her teach knowing that she raised 8 children by herself and still had enough love to share with her students was so inspiring! That’s why I love what I do and love my students so much! We laugh, work hard, and play hard! I love that I’m one of the first people in their lives to help mold them into future leaders and lifelong-learners. Whenever someone finds out I am a teacher, their response is always, “ Oh! I don’t know how you do it!” Well, I can! It’s because not everyone CAN’T do what I do! That’s why I do it! I love it. I never go to work miserable! I miss them even after dropping them off to lunch! 🥹Children are such a joy to me and with everything that is going on in this generation, I hope that they never grow up to forget me or what I’ve ingrained in them. It’s my destiny and my passion! 🫶🏽 The old me walked so the new me could run!! ❤️ #lemon8challenge #safespace #teacherlifestyle #teach #classroom #postpartumdepression #classroomdecor#teacheroutfit#postpartum #purpose

... Read moreWhen people hear about 'cute teachers,' it often sparks a visual image of someone warm, approachable, and truly engaging. For me, being a teacher is about embodying those qualities every single day, creating a space where children feel loved and inspired. It's more than just what you wear or how your room looks; it's about the genuine connection you build. My classroom, with its cheerful bee-themed decor, is designed to be a vibrant and welcoming hive of learning. I believe that a visually appealing and comfortable environment instantly puts students at ease. Choosing a bright, positive outfit, like a light blue shirt and yellow skirt, isn't just about personal style; it's about projecting an energetic and friendly presence. When students see a smiling teacher, it sets a positive tone for the entire day, making them more receptive to learning and connection. It’s amazing how these small details contribute to a big impact. Beyond aesthetics, the heart of being an engaging, or 'cute,' teacher lies in our interactions. I strive to make a positive impact on the children's lives by fostering strong, individual relationships. That means taking the time to create a special bond with each child, understanding their unique personalities, and celebrating their progress, no matter how small. Patience, as the images suggest, is absolutely crucial. There are days filled with challenges, but maintaining a calm and understanding demeanor helps build trust and creates a safe space for every child to grow and learn. For me, teaching is truly my gift and purpose in life. It's in these connections, watching their eyes light up with understanding, and seeing them embrace new ideas that I find immense joy. Feeling appreciated everyday, whether through a heartfelt 'I love you' scrawled on a handmade note or a simple drawing of a bee, reinforces why I do what I do. These moments of genuine affection and appreciation from my students are what make this journey so incredibly rewarding and keep my passion alive. If you're an aspiring teacher, or even a parent looking to connect more deeply with your child’s educators, remember that the most 'cute' and impactful teachers are those who bring their whole heart to the classroom. They create an environment of warmth, curiosity, and respect. It’s about being present, being patient, and consistently showing up with a desire to make a difference. Every day is an opportunity to mold future leaders and lifelong learners, and that, to me, is the most beautiful and fulfilling aspect of this profession.
