How I Defeated My Postpartum Depression 👩🏽‍🍼❤️

#lemon8diarychallenge

Ten years ago, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy! I was 20 years old and my life started to change so fast. It was extremely overwhelming and I had no idea what was happening to me! I was in the process of getting my drivers license at the time and kept failing.I hated my boss because she was so cruel to me and ultimately the reason why I had my son early due to stress! All of the sudden, I noticed that I was easily irritable, losing my appetite, crying every second, and discouraged about where I was in my life! I went to my OBGYN where they diagnosed me with postpartum depression. They prescribed me with Zoloft— an antidepressant that would make me more “Mello”, they said. Well that didn’t sound comforting to me. That’s when I decided to fight back without medication! 💊 Here’s what worked for me! 🥹🫶🏽

1. Prayer & Bible scriptures 🙏🏽

2. Reminding myself that this shall pass 😮‍💨

3. Gratitude of the health of my baby and support of my husband 👶🏽❤️👩🏽‍❤️‍👨🏽

4. Left my job and my evil boss ✌🏽

5. Letting in natural sunlight ☀️

6. Listening to jazz music 🎶 🎷

7. Dressing up & stepping out with my friends 👠

8. Drinking more water 💧

9. Reading self-improvement books 📚

10. Gave myself a mommy-makeover! 💇🏽‍♀️

11. Redecorating & reorganizing my home 🏡 🛋️

12. Exploring new recipes 🍳👩🏽‍🍳

13. Rewatching my favorite childhood movies🍿🎬

14. Bonding with my baby 👩🏽‍🍼

15. Taking it one day at a time 📆

16. Giving myself grace and understanding that I’m not going to have life figured out overnight 😌

17. Not allowing my depression to define me ✋🏽

18. Keeping myself busy and productive 📈

19. Deep cleaning 🧽 🧹

20. Accepting that this is my new normal and being at peace with it.☮️

Ten years later, my son has been such a joy to our family! I’m so grateful that God never gave up on me so that I wouldn’t give up on myself! 🥹🫶🏽🥰#postpartumdepression #unfiltered #safespace #lemon8challenge

... Read morePostpartum depression is a widespread challenge that affects many new mothers, significantly impacting mental and emotional health. It often manifests after childbirth, leading to feelings of sadness, anxiety, and overwhelming exhaustion. It’s crucial to recognize that healing takes time and that every mother’s journey is unique. One powerful approach to overcoming postpartum depression is through self-care strategies. Engaging in activities such as mindfulness, yoga, and nurturing hobbies can provide relief. Furthermore, establishing a strong support system through family, friends, or support groups can be invaluable. Sharing experiences with others who understand can diminish feelings of isolation. Additionally, exploring natural remedies like herbal supplements, alongside a healthy diet, can positively influence one’s mood and energy levels. Remember, seeking professional help is paramount if the weight of depression becomes too heavy. Mental health professionals can provide tailored strategies and therapies that align with individual needs. This acknowledges that while many find success in self-directed approaches, professional guidance remains essential for comprehensive care. Celebrating small victories along the way, such as taking a moment for oneself or enjoying simple pleasures, fosters resilience. It's these small acts of kindness towards oneself that pave the path to recovery. Mothers everywhere should know that they are not alone; there is a community ready to support each other through this journey. Embracing the journey of motherhood, complete with its challenges, ultimately leads to powerful growth and deeper connections with our children.

I needed this. I was prescribed medicine that I haven’t even bothered to take. I’ve been working on getting through this without anything, I’m glad to see that I’m not alone
