TOP 4 MUST-VISIT vegetarian food in Taiwan 🤤✨

Back from my Taiwan trip and my belly is SO satisfied!!

Because of their local agriculture, their fruits and vegetables are incredibly fresh! No awful frozen vegetables (':

Sharing the Top 4 candidates from my trip:

💖 1. Sunami

✨Unique fusion food variations e.g. The' salmon' in the smoked avocado roll is actually char-grilled carrot!

✨ Love the tomyum knife cut noodle dumplings - sauce was so fragrant and noodle dumplings were chewy

✨ Place was nicely decorated but gets a little noisy with the crowd. Recommended to reserve too since it's quite popular

💖 2. 立月麥面

✨ A cosy hidden gem near our hotel in city centre. Owner does a one-man show (but thank goodness it was not crowded)

✨ Noodle texture is AMAZING and the wanton was so tasty 😋

✨ So good we went for both lunch and dinner HAHA

💖 3. 夏安局蔬食

✨ Dan dan rice looks underwhelming but dayum the braised meat was so delicious!

The carrots were so well-braised and sweet

✨ Staff recommended their pizza and the dough was chef-kiss omg. And the cheese was so generous yet not overkill

✨ Interior is really pretty and atas looking, so I'm surprised at how affordable the food was

💖 4. 舒食男孩

✨ OUR FAVOURITE FOR THE ENTIRE TRIP

✨ They have omakase available - which contains appetisers, main and dessert.

It costed only $20 which is super worth it imo

. All the food was so fresh and yummy

✨ Best was the brinjal tempura which was so crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside 🥹 and the dragonfruit fried rice?! Sounds SUS but was tangy, savoury and fragrant

✨ The dessert was some papaya jelly infused with winter melon juice. The texture and taste was mind-blowing eh

✨ Boss was really friendly too and would intro his dishes, some of the sauces and drinks are made in-house with the fruits he grew yumsss

💖 Honourable mention to our minsu at Taitung - La Tree!

✨ Kindly accommodated to our vegetarian meals requested, and every morning was a delightful breakfast e.g mushrooms, potatoes, egg pancakes

✨ The welcome cheesecake with roselle was super smooth and light!!! My first time asking for more cake because usually they are too heavy and jelat for me haha

✨ The minsu staff was super friendly too, and even drove us to the nearby beach on her own accord

Taiwan really spoiled us with so many vegetarian choices ahhhhh. Hope to explore more 🌱 places so comment down below if you have reccos :) Comment below if you would like the full of address of the places I have mentioned too!

... Read moreTaiwan's vegetarian food scene goes beyond just taste—it's an experience deeply connected to the island’s rich agriculture and cultural diversity. One highlight I’d recommend is exploring the use of local fruits and vegetables, which are often incorporated into dishes making each bite fresh and vibrant. Many vegetarian restaurants in Taiwan, like the ones I visited, pride themselves on creativity. For example, the smoked avocado roll at Sunami has char-grilled carrot imitating salmon, which blew me away with how authentic it tasted. This kind of innovative ingredient substitution is common and worth seeking out. If you’re curious about textures, places like 立月麥面 offer incredible chewy noodles and flavorful wontons that will delight your palate without overwhelming it. Also, don’t miss out on trying omakase style vegetarian meals, such as the affordable and lavish set at 舒食男孩 in Taitung. The included appetisers, mains, and desserts showcase the chef’s skill and passion, with unique items like crispy brinjal tempura and dragonfruit fried rice that surprise with unexpected yet harmonious flavors. For accommodations, the minsu La Tree in Taitung was a warm experience with great vegetarian breakfasts and friendly hosts, adding comfort to the culinary journey. Overall, Taiwan offers a vegetarian food journey that balances tradition, innovation, and freshness. I highly recommend leaving room to try diverse dishes and don’t hesitate to ask locals or hosts for their favorite spots—they often lead you to hidden gems. Let me know if you want addresses or more tips for your Taiwan vegetarian adventure!
