Seville in April just hits different. Held every April, the Feria de Abril is a spectacle of colorful traditional costumes, flamenco dancing, lanterns, and horse drawn carriages.
If you find yourself in Sevilla during this beautiful (but busy!) festival, it’s absolutely worth stopping by to experience the local culture.
Most of the tents at the Feria are for private parties but there are usually a few tents open to the public that welcome tourists.

Visiting Seville during the Feria de Abril is truly a memorable experience that goes beyond the colorful parades and festive tents. The atmosphere is electric, as locals and visitors alike immerse themselves in flamenco music and dance performances, which are often spontaneous and heartfelt. Walking through the streets, you’ll notice the lanterns casting a warm glow at night, creating a magical ambiance. One of the highlights for me was seeing the beautifully decorated horse-drawn carriages, which add a historic and picturesque element to the celebrations. These carriages often carry women dressed in flamenco dresses, known as 'traje de flamenca,' with vibrant colors and ruffles. It’s a perfect snapshot of Andalusian culture and tradition. While many tents are private, I found that asking locals or the tourist information centers could help identify which casetas (tents) were open to the public. This openness allows travelers like us to enjoy authentic food, lively music, and friendly conversations. Sampling traditional tapas and sipping on sherry or rebujito (a local cocktail) truly enhanced my experience. The festival also commemorates historical figures like Alfonso XIII and Fernando II, with the event being held near significant landmarks that sometimes feature in local history tours. If you time your visit well, you might catch parades or horseback riding displays paying homage to Seville’s rich heritage. Overall, participating in Feria de Abril is not just about witnessing a festival—it's about engaging with Seville’s spirited community and creating personal memories that reflect the city’s soul in April.
