Trying to grow in the word of God newbie to this but so excited to get closer for me and my family
It's so wonderful to hear that you're excited to grow in your faith and deepen your connection with God! As a fellow traveler on this path, I completely understand that feeling of wanting to get closer, not just for yourself but for your whole family. Diving into the Bible can feel a bit overwhelming at first, especially when you're just starting out, but it's such a rewarding journey. One of the most profound places to begin is definitely the Gospel of John. For me, reading the Book of John was like having a personal conversation with Jesus. It's unique because it focuses so much on Jesus's identity as the Son of God, emphasizing His divine nature right from the start with that incredible opening: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Throughout the book, John presents Jesus as the light of the world, offering eternal life to those who believe. You'll encounter powerful narratives like Nicodemus's visit, the woman at the well, the raising of Lazarus, and the washing of the disciples' feet, all highlighting Jesus's love, power, and ultimately, His purpose as our savior. It's a deeply spiritual and theological book that continually points back to belief in Jesus for salvation and abundant life. It truly helps you understand who Jesus is and what He came to do, making it a fantastic foundation for any beginner. Then there's the concept of 'aesthetic Christianity,' which has really resonated with me on my journey. It's not just about appearances, but about finding and appreciating the beauty, meaning, and reverence in our faith and daily practices. For me, it means intentionally creating moments and spaces that reflect God's goodness and inspire spiritual reflection. This could be anything from setting up a peaceful corner for prayer and Bible study with inspiring decor, to choosing worship music that deeply moves your soul, or even appreciating the beauty of creation during a nature walk. It’s about being intentional with how we present our faith, not in a performative way, but in a way that truly nurtures our spirit and helps us connect with God. It helps me to remember that faith isn't just an abstract concept; it's something that can be lived out beautifully and intentionally every single day. It's about finding joy and inspiration in the sacred, and allowing that beauty to draw you closer to the divine. For anyone just starting with Bible study, I'd suggest a few things that have helped me. First, don't feel pressured to read large chunks at once. Even just a few verses a day, truly meditating on them, can be incredibly impactful. Second, consider getting a study Bible or using an online commentary; they offer context and insights that can illuminate passages. Third, pray before you start reading, asking God to open your heart and mind to His word. And finally, journaling your thoughts and questions can be a powerful way to process what you're learning and track your spiritual growth. Remember, it's a personal journey, and every step, no matter how small, brings you closer to Him. I'm so excited for you to experience the richness that comes from growing in the Word!
