Duck-Themed Party - All Thrifted + Handmade 🐣💛
I handmade almost all the decor for my son’s duck-themed first birthday and I still love how it turned out 🥹💛
Here’s everything I DIY’d or thrifted for his special day:
🐥 A duck-shaped piñata I made from scratch
✂️ A custom high chair banner with his name
🎈 A white balloon arch
🛁 A thrifted rubber duck table display
🍋 Blue lemonade with a floating rubber duck
🧁 Cupcakes stacked on a tower with rubber ducks on top (a family friend made them for us!)
Most of it came from thrift stores, Dollar Tree, or was handmade with love.
Now that he’s almost 5 (😭), I’m planning a Minecraft-themed party and I’ll be DIYing all the decor on LIVE and making a few videos on tiktok! 🎮💚

Planning a themed first birthday party can be both fun and budget-friendly when you combine DIY projects with thrifted items. Creating a cohesive duck-themed celebration involves balancing creativity, resourcefulness, and personal touches to delight your guests and especially your little one. Start with standout handmade items such as a custom duck-shaped piñata crafted from simple materials like cardboard and tissue paper. This fun activity can double as entertainment and decor. Personalizing a high chair banner with your child’s name adds an intimate and memorable element, making photos more special. Thrift stores and dollar stores offer affordable and unique decor pieces like rubber ducks and mini bathtubs that perfectly suit the theme. Incorporate these into table displays or drink stations, such as blue lemonade with floating rubber ducks for a playful touch. Balloon arches remain a popular and festive decoration option. Opt for a clean white balloon arch to complement your yellow and duck accents, providing a fresh and elegant backdrop for photos. Cupcakes topped with rubber duck decorations, even if made by a family friend, enhance the party atmosphere and offer a cohesive visual theme on the dessert table. Beyond the party itself, sharing your DIY process on social media platforms like TikTok can inspire other parents planning themed celebrations. Transitioning to upcoming themes, like a Minecraft-themed party, reflects how creative decor ideas evolve with your child’s interests and milestones. Remember, the key to a successful party is the love and effort invested into handmade details combined with smart thrift finds that don't compromise style or fun. This approach not only creates memorable experiences but also promotes sustainable party planning practices.
