Structured Activities for the Kiddos
These are the structured activities I plan to do with my 3 year old son and 4 year old god daughter.
First, right after breakfast, we’ll build the potato heads and review body parts. They like to carry the potatoes around with them so we do that first thing and they can play with the built potatoes all day long.
After lunch, we’ll do sorting baskets with my three year old and my god daughter will get to play a board game (Candyland is her favorite).
In between these, we’ll build towers with magnetic tiles and have some sensory play with either kinetic sand or chocolate oobleck. We will work on our first homeschooling lesson (A is for Alligator), and watch Blippi’s show on body parts.
These are my plans for the day! I always feel so calm and collected when I set out our activities prior to the day starting. Today is my first day attempting “school” so our lessons aren’t themed yet. But it’s a (fun) start!!

Structured activities play an essential role in the development of young children by promoting cognitive growth and motor skills. For preschoolers, including activities like sorting games and interactive play helps enhance their ability to categorize and comprehend basic concepts. Incorporating games like Candyland not only makes learning fun but also develops patience and strategic thinking. Additionally, sensory play with materials like kinetic sand or oobleck aids in improving fine motor skills, allowing toddlers to explore textures and enhance creativity. It’s crucial to balance structured activities with free play, ensuring that children can express their creativity and curiosity. You can also create a flexible schedule that allows children to engage in various tasks without feeling overwhelmed. A well-planned day of activities can foster a love for learning that will benefit children well into their school years. Planning ahead reduces stress, promotes a calm environment, and gives you a structured approach to homeschooling, making it easier to introduce new lessons harmoniously. By integrating educational shows such as Blippi into your routine, children can reinforce what they learn during hands-on activities, further solidifying knowledge about body parts and other concepts. Embrace these structured days as stepping stones in your child’s learning journey, creating memorable and impactful experiences together.
