How to Stop People Pleasing.

As a former people-pleaser, I am here to say IT IS POSSIBLE!!!! You CAN start putting yourself and your feelings first. Yes, it's hard work, but it gets easier over time, and you'll be able to look back and be proud of yourself!

🦋 HOW I STOPPED PEOPLE PLEASING:

🖤 "No" is not a bad word.

To me, saying "no" used to feel like I was cursing someone out or telling them that I hated them. What I didn't realize was that I was stretching myself too thin and causing so much stress on my body. Learning to say no is the most important step in breaking the people pleasing habit❗️

To start getting comfortable with the idea of saying no, you can try role-playing different scenarios with someone you trust, or first start with saying no over text.

🖤 Set Boundaries! Protect your boundaries.

It's not going to be easy, and it'll cause tension with people you've never had boundaries with, but boundaries keep us safe. You're going to have to teach yourself and others how you want and deserve to be treated.

🖤 Prioritize your needs

You can not actually meet the needs of others if you're not meeting your needs first. You're constantly sabotaging yourself by doing this because you'll always be stressed, always be uncomfortable, and will always have a bit of resentment towards people. When you're taken care of, being there for others becomes SO much easier.

🖤 Remind yourself that self-love is enough

People pleasing is a viscious cycle of needing the love and acceptance of others so you feel enough. But what if you get that love and acceptance from yourself?

🖤 You're allowed to take your time

If you're not ready to answer someone, simply let them know you need time to think about it. People who truly respect you will understand. Take your time to think over the request, weigh out your options, and think of how to kindly say no if you do not want to fulfill their request.

... Read morePeople pleasing often stems from a deep-seated need for acceptance and approval from others. This behavior can lead to chronic stress and resentment, trapping the individual in a cycle of denying their own needs. One effective way to combat this is through self-reflection and understanding the roots of these behaviors. Journaling can be a powerful tool for this, helping you identify triggers that lead to people pleasing. Additionally, seeking therapy or support groups can provide encouragement and accountability, allowing individuals to share experiences and strategies for breaking free from this pattern. Another valuable approach is to practice assertiveness training. This helps individuals express their thoughts and feelings effectively while respecting both themselves and others. By actively engaging in role-play scenarios, you can build confidence in your ability to say no and establish healthy boundaries without the guilt typically associated with people pleasing. Furthermore, surrounding yourself with supportive friends who understand your goals can enhance your journey toward self-empowerment. Lastly, embracing the concept of self-compassion is crucial. Acknowledge that it's okay to prioritize yourself and allow growth to happen at your own pace. This gradual shift can lead to profound changes in how you relate to yourself and others, fostering a more balanced and fulfilling life. Remember, breaking the people pleasing habit is a journey, not a destination, and every small step counts.

This is an amazing post. Keep up with this content. You will go far. I for one was a people pleaser and I will never go back. For good reason… life is way better over here not trying to please anyone but yourself.
