The perfect beach coverup

I made this beach coverup out of vintage crochet tablecloths! This dress is actually only 2 tablecloths that I draped on my mannequin and sewed together. I used yarn tie closures on the halter and back to get it on and off.

I had a destination wedding in Punta Cana and wanted to make myself something special to wear over my swimsuits and I have never received so many compliments on a piece of clothing in my life. I can’t wait to wear it on another trip and make more to sell for my brand 🤍

Using repurposed materials like vintage tablecloths not only adds a unique, handmade aesthetic but also promotes an eco-friendly approach to fashion. When making such a coverup, draping the fabric on a mannequin allows for accurate shaping and fitting, which is crucial for a garment meant to flow effortlessly over swimwear. Yarn tie closures offer both functionality and a delicate, handcrafted appeal. These ties make the coverup adjustable and easy to slip on and off, ensuring comfort and practicality at the beach or poolside. Plus, the halter and back closure design accentuates the silhouette while providing secure fitting. This coverup is a perfect example of turning vintage textiles into wearable art. For those planning destination weddings or tropical vacations, crafting a personalized coverup can elevate your swimwear style and garner compliments, much like the creator experienced in Punta Cana. Such projects also open opportunities for aspiring fashion designers and sewing enthusiasts to innovate and potentially develop a small brand centered on unique, handmade vacation wear. Incorporating vintage crochet not only adds texture and detail but also reflects a timeless charm that mass-produced coverups often lack. To replicate this project, sourcing secondhand or vintage crochet tablecloths is ideal, and sewing skills are needed to join pieces and add functional closures. This DIY approach encourages creative expression while offering a sustainable alternative to fast fashion beachwear. Embracing these techniques can inspire more individuals to customize their vacation wardrobes with meaningful, stylish pieces that tell a story. Whether worn at a luxury resort such as Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana or at a local beach, such a coverup stands out as a beautiful, authentic garment that celebrates craftsmanship and personal style.
