From my experience, running on snow adds a unique twist to your typical trail run. The crunch of fresh snow underfoot, the crisp, cold air, and the expansive mountain views create an invigorating environment that keeps you motivated despite the chill. It's important to gear up correctly—trail shoes with good traction are essential to avoid slipping. Layering is key too; moisture-wicking and insulating fabrics help regulate your body temperature during the run. I also found that starting with shorter distances helps your body adapt to the different muscle strains from slower, more deliberate steps. Snow running offers benefits beyond the physical workout. The solitude and serene snowy landscapes in Summit County provide mental clarity and stress relief that’s hard to find elsewhere. If you’re new to snow running, try to pick a sunny day, and consider running on packed trails first before venturing into fresh powder. Overall, my snow running experience in the Greater Keystone and Dillon area was both challenging and rewarding.
