I was introduced to Penelope Douglas after reading Five Brothers for a book club. I went on to read another one of her books before tackling this one. There’s something I enjoy about her writing and her distinctly taboo style. While I absolutely loved the two titles I’ve read from her, Birthday Girl is by far my favorite. It beautifully reveals the moral complexities of the characters and their inner thoughts, even as it gives in to a powerful temptation.
Oh and not to mention how hilarious and sarcastic certain scenes were. I was literally cracking up while reading this one.
