Cute garden ideas
Here’s some cute ideas I’ve found on Pinterest that I want to incorporate into my pollinator garden this summer. I really want to hone in on the whimsy and add some visual interest with these crafts and DIYs. None of the pictures are mine other than the title slide. If you have any other ideas, feel free to share them!
1. DIY trellis—this one’s pretty easy. I already started attaching some fencing to the tree stakes that were lying around in the shed. I just used some wire I found to secure the fence to the stakes. It’s not the most durable for heavier climbing plants, but I’m planning on adding some clematis and maybe some other vines.
2. Kindness rocks—I feel like everyone is a bit familiar with the whole painting rocks idea but since my garden is in the corner of a fenced in yard, I have pebbles along the fence to keep any grass from coming in from the neighbors’ yards. I would probably force my siblings to do a couple each. I feel like a few dozen of these painted rocks with nice messages or paintings would look really nice.
3. Bricks painted to look like books—I bought some bigger pavers and want to try to recreate some children’s books covers. I feel like it’s giving fairytale garden and I adore that.
4. Thrifted glassware flowers—I saw a video of a woman who used epoxy glue to put a bunch of plates and cups and whatnot together and then she drilled a hole into a hockey puck to stick a PVC pipe into it. I think these look really nice and could be done for fairly cheap as well.
5. Bee baths/fountains—I don’t know if I’ll get around to this one or not, but I love the idea of giving my pollinators a nice rest stop on their pollination route. I think some oven bake clay would do the trick to make a few of these and they could catch rainwater and sprinkler water.
6. DIY giant mushrooms—I feel like this is extra whimsical and magical and I need these in my garden. These supplies could also easily be thrifted or even bought at a dollar store but they look like a lot of fun.
7. Painted birdhouses—This is something I’ve been meaning to add to my garden for years. I would have to research what types of birds live around me but we have a few that come to a bird feeder close by the garden. I could ask my siblings to lend me a hand with these as well.
