Nic is one of my favorite characters I read all year. She cares for everyone under her command. Even her ex Kassandra that she end up being the bodyguard for on a ship they swore to never step foot on again. She thinks she is going to help Kassandra investigate a murder but it is more than she could have imagined.
Reading This Gilded Abyss truly felt like embarking on a journey full of unexpected twists and deep emotional connections. What stood out most for me was Nic's unwavering dedication to those she cares about, especially given the complicated history with Kassandra. The dynamic between them added layers to the story, making the mystery more compelling as it unfolded on the ship they vowed to avoid. The author crafts a vivid setting that perfectly captures the tension and atmosphere of a confined space filled with secrets.
