Don’t skate without the proper knowledge pls
I was skating yesterday at my little cousins birthday a skating rink and I fell and I fractured my knee and have ligament damage. I hadn’t skated in years. I didn’t have knee or shoulder pads to protect. So don’t skate without proper equipment or knowledge cause the outcome sucks 😬
Having recently experienced a painful fall while skating at a family birthday party, I now realize how crucial it is to prioritize safety on the rink. Even if you haven't skated in years, or are just trying it out casually, wearing appropriate protective gear like knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards can significantly reduce the risk of serious injuries. When I fell, I lacked proper knee and shoulder protection, which unfortunately resulted in a fractured knee and ligament damage—something I wish I had avoided. Beyond just equipment, knowledge of basic skating techniques and how to fall safely can make a big difference. For example, learning how to bend your knees to absorb impact and avoid stiffening up can minimize harm. Additionally, practicing balance and control helps prevent unexpected falls. Before skating, doing warm-up exercises and stretches can prepare your muscles and joints better and enhance your performance. Skating rinks and communities often offer beginner classes or instructional sessions, which I recommend to anyone wanting to get back on skates or start fresh. These can build confidence and awareness on the rink, making your experience safer and more enjoyable. Lastly, always evaluate the environment you skate in—whether it's a busy rink or an outdoor trail—so you know what to expect and can avoid hazards. Remember, skating is a fun activity, but it requires respect for safety to keep it that way. From my personal journey, I urge all skaters—novices and returnees alike—to equip themselves properly and gain the right knowledge to prevent injuries and make the most of the skating experience.
