Prairie Dog
Black-tailed prairie dog AKA (Cynomys ludovicianus) is a rodent found in the Great Plains of North America from about the United States–Canada border to the United States–Mexico border. Black-tailed prairie dogs are generally tan in color, with lighter-colored bellies. They’re the cousins of our backyard squirrels. Their other biological relatives include groundhogs, chipmunks, marmots and woodchucks. They measure 14 to 17 inches (36 to 43 centimeters) long and weigh between 2 and 3 pounds (1 kilogram). Males can live up to 5 years and the females can live up to 8 years.
Whenever we go back to the hotel 🏨 I always see these guys scurrying away making their alarm bark. 🔊⚠️ ☎️

It was difficult to get close so I had to use my Canon 75-300mm lens to get these shots because there was no way I was gonna get quality photos with my iPhone 14 Plus.
FUN FACTS :
1.) They live in tight-knit family groups called coteries. The average coterie tends to have one or two breeding males, several breeding females, and the females’ new pups. Males tend to jump from coterie to coterie—but the females stick together for life.
2.) The largest prairie dog colony ever recorded spanned over 25,000 square miles (65,000 square kilometers) and was home to an estimated 400 million prairie dogs.
