My Journey with the VI Peel: What to Really Expect Post-Treatment, Especially on Day 2 & 3! I recently completed my second VI Chemical Peel, and let me tell you, the journey is just as important as the destination when it comes to the results! While the application itself, as my aesthetician mentioned, can be a little 'spicy' – definitely a sensation you feel, but manageable with a fan – the real test of patience and commitment begins with the post-treatment phase. This time, I had my peel with Avery at Boundless Beauty and Wellness in Cumming, Georgia, and I'm thrilled to share my honest experience, especially for those wondering about the crucial days following the treatment. Day 1: The Initial Calm Before the Storm Immediately after the peel, my skin felt taut and looked a bit shiny, almost like a thin film was sitting on it. There wasn't much discomfort, just a feeling of tightness. It’s important to follow the instructions given by your aesthetician meticulously. For me, this involved using the post-peel towelettes and keeping my skin hydrated. Day 2: The Itchiness Begins! This is where the 'itchiest on day two and three' part really comes into play! Day 2 was definitely the peak for me in terms of sensations. My face started to feel noticeably itchy, almost like a deep tingle that just wouldn't quit. It's crucial not to scratch! I found that gently patting my skin or applying the post-peel moisturizer helped to alleviate some of the discomfort. My skin also started to look a bit darker and more leathery in places, indicating that the top layer was preparing to shed. This is a normal part of the chemical peel process, and it’s a sign that the peel is actively working. Day 3 & Beyond: The Peeling Journey True to what I was told and experienced, the peeling process really kicked off on Day 3. For me, it started around my mouth and chin, almost like a snake shedding its skin. It then slowly worked its way up and across my face, down into my neck. It’s fascinating to watch, but you absolutely must resist the urge to pick or pull at the peeling skin. Doing so can lead to scarring or hyperpigmentation, undoing all the good work of the peel. I kept my skin well-hydrated with the recommended moisturizer and was diligent with SPF, even indoors. The peeling continued for about 3-5 days, with the most significant shedding happening on days 3-5. My Post-Treatment Essentials & Tips: Hydration is Key: Keep your skin moisturized with the products provided or recommended by your professional. Sun Protection is Non-Negotiable: Your new skin is extremely vulnerable. Wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily and reapply. Avoid direct sun exposure. Gentle Cleansing: Use a mild, non-foaming cleanser. No harsh scrubs or active ingredients like retinoids or AHAs until fully healed. No Picking! Seriously, resist the urge. Let the skin shed naturally. Patience: The process takes time. Don't expect instant perfect skin. The Results: My Complexion Improved! Once the peeling finally subsided, typically around day 7, the transformation was remarkable. My complexion really improved, appearing much brighter, smoother, and more even-toned. Fine lines seemed less noticeable, and any hyperpigmentation I had was significantly reduced. The 'fully rejuvenated' feeling was absolutely real. It truly felt like a fresh start for my skin. For me, the entire experience, including the "spicy" application and the "itchy" days, was "definitely worth the drive out of Atlanta" to achieve these results. If you're considering a VI Peel, understanding the post-treatment phase is crucial for managing expectations and ensuring the best outcome.
