Farmers Market Flowers
Visiting a farmers market for flowers is one of my favorite weekend activities because it supports local growers and offers access to fresh, seasonal blooms that you often can't find in big stores. When I shop for farmers market flowers, I pay attention to the freshness and vibrancy of the petals and leaves. A good sign is when the flowers are just starting to open, which means they will last longer at home. Seasonal flowers vary depending on your region and the time of year, but common favorites include sunflowers in late summer, tulips in spring, and asters in autumn. One tip is to ask the vendors about the best flowers for arranging or for specific uses like bouquets or centerpieces. Often, they can recommend varieties that are both beautiful and long-lasting. Caring for farmers market flowers is straightforward but important. I always trim the stems at an angle before placing them in clean water with flower food if available. Changing the water every couple of days and keeping the flowers away from direct sunlight or heat sources helps them stay fresh longer. Finally, I love combining different types of blooms and greenery from the market to create unique arrangements. It’s a rewarding way to bring a bit of nature’s beauty indoors while also enjoying the seasonal variety that farmers markets celebrate.
