Jesus’ 1st recorded teaching Bible study notes

Jesus’ first recorded teaching comes from Mark, the first Gospel recorded, Mark 1:15. Jesus says the kingdom of God has come near repent and believe the good news. There’s a command here to repent and believe that’s the posture to receive the good news. I hope this verse dissecting was helpful for you and you learned something new through the highlighting and teaching of learning this Bible verse for today 😊 #biblestudytime #biblestudymoments #biblejournalingcommunity #bibleversefortoday #biblejournal

2/17 Edited to

... Read moreI've always been fascinated by the depth of Jesus' words, especially his very first recorded teaching. It’s more than just a command; it’s truly a word of encouragement for anyone seeking a fresh start. When Jesus says in Mark 1:15, 'The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news,' it’s not an intimidating directive, but an invitation. For me, 'repent' used to sound heavy, like admitting all my mistakes. But I've learned it's really about a change of mind, a turning towards something better – towards God's incredible love and grace. It's like turning a new page, realizing you can move away from what holds you back and embrace a new direction. And 'believe the good news'? That's simply trusting in the incredible message that God's love is here, accessible, and transformative. It's the ultimate source of hope when things feel uncertain. This teaching is a powerful reminder that we're always offered a chance for renewal, and that is truly encouraging in every season of life. Speaking of Jesus' words, have you ever wondered about the language He actually spoke? It's easy to forget that the New Testament was written in Greek, but Jesus himself primarily spoke Aramaic. This fascinating detail adds another layer to understanding His message. The name 'Jesus' itself comes from the Greek 'Iēsous,' which is a transliteration of the Hebrew/Aramaic name 'Yeshua' (or Yēšūă‘). And what does 'Yeshua' mean? It beautifully translates to 'Yahweh saves' or 'God saves.' Isn't that incredible? His very name embodies the 'good news' He came to proclaim! It's a constant reminder of His mission and the salvation He offers, right from the start. Knowing that Jesus' name, 'Yeshua,' means 'God saves' makes Mark 1:15 even more profound. He's not just telling us there's good news; His very identity is the good news, a living word of encouragement. Beyond His name, we hear echoes of Aramaic in other famous passages too, like 'Talitha Cumi' (little girl, arise!) or His cry from the cross, 'Eli, Eli, Lema Sabachthani?' (My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?). These glimpses into His native tongue help us feel a deeper connection to the historical Jesus and the authentic power of His teachings. It reminds us that His message was delivered directly, personally, and with immense spiritual weight. So, when we ponder, 'Do you know what Jesus' first teaching is?' – as the question on that image so perfectly puts it – we're exploring not just a verse, but the very heart of His mission, delivered in a language that carried centuries of spiritual heritage, all pointing to a profound message of hope and redemption.
