It's wild how different this pregnancy has felt compared to what I'd heard about singletons, and I wanted to share some of the early twin pregnancy symptoms I experienced. Maybe they'll resonate with you if you're suspecting you might be carrying two little miracles too! One of the first things that hit me, and hit me hard, was extreme fatigue. I'm talking about a level of tiredness that sleep couldn't even touch. I felt like I could sleep for 12 hours and still wake up exhausted. It wasn't just 'first-trimester tired' โ€“ it felt like my body was working overtime from the very beginning. I remember just wanting to nap constantly, which isn't usually my style! Then there was the morning sickness, or should I say all-day sickness! While many pregnant individuals experience nausea, mine felt particularly intense and started quite early. I was constantly battling queasiness, and some days, it was a real struggle to keep anything down. It definitely felt more pronounced than what I'd imagined, and looking back, it makes sense with two little ones demanding nutrients! Another noticeable sign was how quickly my belly started to show. I felt like I was showing much earlier than friends who were carrying single babies. My uterus seemed to be growing at an accelerated pace, and I was definitely out of my regular clothes sooner than expected. Itโ€™s like my body was making extra room for two future residents right away! I also noticed a significant increase in my appetite. I was constantly hungry, and it wasn't just cravings; it felt like a deep, persistent hunger that needed to be satisfied. Eating for two (or technically three!) really is a thing, and my body was certainly letting me know it needed more fuel. Along with this came a slightly more rapid weight gain in the early stages. While you can't feel this yourself, my doctor later confirmed that elevated HCG levels are a strong indicator of a multiple pregnancy. This hormone is produced during pregnancy, and with twins, your body often produces more of it, leading to those stronger symptoms like fatigue and morning sickness. It's not something you can measure at home, but it's a key sign for medical professionals. Finally, I felt fetal movements earlier and more frequently than I anticipated. Those initial flutters and kicks seemed to start sooner and felt more widespread. It was an amazing feeling, but also made me wonder if there was more than one baby in there, given the amount of activity! Of course, the only way to truly confirm a twin pregnancy is through an ultrasound performed by a medical professional. But if you're experiencing some of these supercharged symptoms, it might be worth mentioning to your doctor. It's a wild, wonderful ride, and I'm so excited for what's to come in April with my twin girls!
