That One Aunty that can Lie.
I'm trying new things on my page, and after talking to a lot of people, I finally have the courage to combine my written comedy and add video to it. I am very nervous, and I'm not sure what the response will be. If you can relate to this video or find it funny, please like or comment with an emoji or something.
If you are familiar with my page, you will know that I am a funny writer, and I will never ever stop writing. However, I'm trying to step out a little. Thanks for watching.

So, you know how I’m always talking about stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new things with my content? Well, this ‘Aunty Lie Lie’ skit was definitely a big step for me, combining my written comedy with video! And honestly, the response has been incredible. After sharing it, I've had so many messages from you guys saying, 'OMG, I HAVE that aunty!' It’s wild how universal this experience is, isn't it? It really got me thinking about why 'aunty' isn't just a simple title, but a whole vibe and cultural phenomenon in so many communities. When we say 'aunty,' especially in many African, Asian, or Caribbean communities, it’s not just about being your mother’s sister. It's often a term of respect for any older woman in your community or extended family. But sometimes, let's be real, it comes with a certain... *reputation*. You know, the one who somehow knows everything about everyone, and often adds a little extra spice to the truth! That’s exactly where ‘Aunty Lie Lie’ comes in. She's not just an 'aunt' by blood; she’s the aunty who embodies a specific type of busybody wisdom, or rather, the spreading of 'information' with questionable origins. In my sketch, you see the classic scenario unfold. There’s 'Mom in Distress' trying to get to the bottom of things, repeatedly asking 'who told you this information?' with increasing frustration. And then there's 'Aunty Kolobo,' who quickly earns the nickname 'Aunty Lie Lie' (or even 'Aunty Evil' as some of you aptly suggested!). She just deflects with those infamous lines like 'somebody, nobody' or 'you know me, somebody from somewhere came and told me.' It's classic! This 'Bizi Body Nation' phenomenon is so real and relatable. It’s funny because it’s true, right? The way she tries to bring 'God in this Nonsense' to justify her gossip is just peak aunty behavior. It’s all about how these stories spread, often without verifiable sources, becoming family lore whether true or not. You can almost feel Mom's stress, feeling 'very stressed' by the situation, especially when Aunty finally admits 'No body Told her sha' – after all that drama! Creating this kind of content, where I blend my written comedy with video, feels so good because it allows us to laugh at these situations instead of getting completely stressed out. Like 'Mom in Distress' in the skit, we've all been there, feeling overwhelmed by unsolicited 'information' or rumors. But turning it into a sketch, watching 'Aunty Lie Lie' squirm when asked for her source, and ultimately seeing the humor in her evasiveness – that's where the healing and the shared laughter come in. It’s a way to embrace vulnerability (as I often hashtag!) and connect over shared experiences, transforming potentially awkward or frustrating family moments into something we can all chuckle about. So, next time you encounter your own 'Aunty Lie Lie' or find yourself caught in some family drama, maybe instead of getting frustrated, you can secretly turn it into your own mental comedy sketch! How do you deal with family gossip or that one relative who always 'knows' things? Share your own 'aunty' stories or funny family moments in the comments – I’d absolutely love to hear them! It’s all about finding the humor in the everyday chaos, and that's exactly what I'm trying to do with my content here on Lemon8.
