... Read moreWow, what a year it's been for convention cosplays! Getting to embody some of my favorite characters is truly a passion project, and I'm so thrilled to share some of the highlights from my 2025 convention circuit. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, there’s nothing quite like bringing a character to life.
My Convention Adventures: Zenkaikon & Beyond!
This year, I spent a lot of time preparing for various cons, including Zenkaikon! Planning for a convention like Zenkaikon cosplay involves so much more than just putting on a costume. It's about scouting locations for photoshoots, ensuring comfort for long days, and connecting with other fans. My top tip for any convention-goer is to always have a backup for your costume, especially if it's intricate. And don't forget to pack snacks and water! It makes the whole experience much more enjoyable.
Embracing the Genderbend: Chuuya, Aizawa, and More!
One of my favorite aspects of cosplaying is putting a unique spin on beloved characters. This year, I really dove into genderbend cosplays, and they were a huge hit! For instance, my gender-bent Chuuya Nakahara from Bungo Stray Dogs was designed to capture his fiery personality while adding a feminine edge. I loved styling the black hat, leather jacket, and even adding ripped jeans for a casual yet edgy look, which was perfect for some outdoor shots. It's so fun to see how people react to a fresh take on a classic character!
Another character I absolutely adored bringing to life as a genderbend was Shota Aizawa (Eraserhead) from My Hero Academia. Transforming his iconic look into a crop top and adding a dramatic grey scarf gave it a distinct style, and finding the right pose for a photoshoot is key to capturing the character's essence. And let's not forget my take on Ryunosuke Akutagawa, giving his gothic coat and black-and-white hair a unique twist with fishnet stockings. It's all about creative expression! Plus, my gender-bent Nikolai Gogol with the clown makeup and checkered top, and a fierce gender-bent Present Mic with blonde hair and bold orange sunglasses, truly pushed my creative boundaries.
Bringing Iconic Characters to Life: Meg Thomas, Kuromi, and Mahito
Beyond genderbending, I had a blast with some straightforward character interpretations. My Meg Thomas cosplay from Dead by Daylight was a personal favorite. Getting her iconic red braided hair and sporty look just right felt really satisfying. It's always a treat to portray characters that resonate with gamers.
And who doesn't love a bit of cuteness with an edge? My Kuromi cosplay, with the distinct black and white hair and dark makeup, complete with Kuromi-themed cat ears, was so much fun to wear. The reactions were priceless! On the more unexpected side, I even decided to try a Mahito as a schoolgirl cosplay, complete with light blue hair and face markings, which was surprisingly popular. It's these diverse characters that make convention experiences so memorable.
Looking back at all these amazing characters – from the intense gender-bent versions of Aizawa and Chuuya, to the detailed Meg Thomas, and the playful Kuromi – I'm already brainstorming ideas for next year! Cosplay is more than just dressing up; it's a community, a creative outlet, and an incredible way to celebrate the stories and characters we love. I hope my adventures inspire some of you to try out your own dream cosplays!
