Sarah and Diniy’s first outfit of the day was grey, much like the hotel rooms they were in, preparing for their big day. It’s not everyday that you get to take “prep-shots” at the Hilton. A welcome change of pace for sure, especially considering that our ceremony today takes place at the very familiar Casa Bayu.
White walls, a white ceiling, and a white stage make for clean and easy lighting. Some off-camera flash makes light work of the stage shots and shooting the 50mm f1.2 wide open produces lovely march-in photos. The energy is palpable and emotions are on full display making it easy to capture little moments between guests and relatives. It always humbles me how we as photographers are let into such intimate and raw moments in complete strangers’ lives, and how we’re entrusted to ensnare these rare fleeting memories before they evaporate into the ether.
Speaking of the ether, our outdoor shoot featured some of the bluest of blue skies I’ve ever seen. Undeterred by the afternoon heat, our couple and their bridal party made full use of the Marina East Park. With outfits billowing in the wind and sun beaming on their faces, we knocked out pose after pose, activity after activity. Bridal party photos have never been easier. We also had a beautiful long veil to make use of, which in combination with the breeze, created some of my favourite shots of the day.
And of course I couldn't resist busting out the prism for a reflection shot, somehow managing to incorporate a refracted image of the sun as a flare, adding an extra little point of interest to the image.

Shooting at elegant venues like the Hilton offers wonderful opportunities for pristine prep shots, where natural light and luxurious interiors lend themselves to capturing the quiet excitement before the ceremony.
What makes seaside bridal shoots especially memorable are the dynamic elements like the breeze and sunlight, which infuse life into photos with flowing veils and radiant faces. I’ve found Marina East Park to be an excellent location due to its expansive blue sky and open spaces that encourage natural interactions rather than forced posing. This setting allows couples and their bridal parties to relax and express genuine joy, which always translates beautifully in images.
Using equipment like a 50mm f1.2 lens set wide open is a favorite technique, as it creates stunning bokeh effects that emphasize the couple while softly blurring the background. Additionally, incorporating props such as prisms can add unique refractions and sun flares, giving photos artistic flair and creating visual interest. These creative touches elevate wedding albums from ordinary to extraordinary.
Capturing heartfelt expressions between guests and family is another rewarding aspect. These fleeting moments often reveal the emotional connections that define a wedding day, making the photographer’s role both humbling and vital. In my experience, clients cherish these candid shots as much as the posed portraits because they tell the full story of their celebration.
For couples planning seaside shoots, I recommend coordinating outfit colors that complement natural surroundings, like soft greys, whites, and blues seen here. Choosing locations with varied backdrops—such as white-walled interiors paired with vibrant outdoor scenery—adds dimension and variety to the final collection.
Overall, actual day wedding photography at seaside locales combines technical skill with an intuitive understanding of atmosphere and emotion. It’s a privilege to help couples preserve these precious moments in such picturesque settings.
