Which bookstore would you rush to first?

I’ve been hoarding Boston’s cutest bookshops in my “save for later” folder for months. Today, we’re actually talking about them (and no, they’re not just for Instagram).

1. Brattle Book Shop (Downtown)

199 years old and smells like a vintage library dream, their $1 outdoor bins are gold. Found a 1960s poetry collection here last visit! Plus, it’s in the movie The Holdovers, you’re basically walking into a period drama.

2. Brookline Booksmith (Brookline)

Basement full of discounted used books (hello, $5 paperbacks!) and upstairs? Regular author events. I met a debut novelist here last spring. Bonus: they sell quirky literary gifts (think: “I’d rather be reading” tote bags).

3. Katherine Small Gallery (Somerville)

Tiny but packed with design nerd heaven, typography books, art zines, and limited-edition prints. Found the cutest letterpress card here for a friend who’s a graphic designer.

4. More Than Words (South End)

Not just a bookstore, it’s a nonprofit run by teens aging out of foster care. Every book has a backstory, and buying here feels like you’re part of something. Snagged a gently used Pride and Prejudice here that came with a handwritten note inside.

5. Papercuts Bookshop (Jamaica Plain)

Run by a former publisher, so the 小众 book selection is chef’s kiss. They host monthly reading series—cozy as hell, and you can grab a beer next door at Tres Gatos before browsing.

6. Porter Square Books (Cambridge

Quiet spot with killer staff recs (they once handed me a book I’d never heard of and it became my favorite). End with a latte at Café Zing next door.
