❤️ Give myself grace—progress over perfection! #FitnessJourney #SelfImprovement #glowup2024 #winterarc #blackgirlfitness
We all have those moments when we feel stuck, don't we? For me, it was a cycle of starting strong on self-improvement goals only to burn out when I couldn't maintain perfection. That's when I realized the profound truth in 'when grace locates you, it breaks protocol' – not in a mystical sense, but in how I approached my own journey to an #ElevationEra. It's about giving myself kindness and understanding, rather than strict adherence to rigid rules. My old 'protocol' was all about an 'all or nothing' mentality. If I missed a workout, the whole week was ruined. If I ate something 'unhealthy,' my balanced meal prep went out the window. But then, I discovered that true grace in self-improvement means allowing for imperfections and adjustments. Instead of seeing a missed day as a failure, I now see it as an opportunity to regroup. For instance, if I couldn't get to the gym for my usual session in my athletic wear, I'd simply make sure to get my 2-mile walk in outdoors, making sure I moved daily, rather than letting it derail my entire fitness plan. This shift in mindset has been a game-changer. My calendar used to be packed with non-negotiable routines, and a single deviation would send me spiraling. But now, my morning and night routines are more flexible. If I'm too tired for a full 5-minute meditation, even a minute of mindful breathing counts. That's grace. It helps me break free from the protocol of self-sabotage that comes from unrealistic expectations. Hydration, for example, used to be a point of stress. The goal of drinking 40oz of water daily felt daunting if I didn't hit it. Now, with my favorite tumbler by my side, I focus on consistent effort. If I only manage 30oz one day, I don't beat myself up. I simply aim to do better the next. This gentle approach has actually made it easier to form lasting habits. It's about recognizing that progress isn't linear, and that's okay. I've also integrated this 'grace breaks protocol' philosophy into other areas. Learning new skills, like starting a new hobby that involves seed packets, used to feel like another chore if I didn't progress quickly. Now, it's a joyful exploration. Even my skincare routine, which is part of my self-care, isn't about achieving flawless skin overnight, but about consistent, loving attention. Tracking my habits with a habit tracker now focuses on celebrating consistency over perfection, reminding me that small steps accumulate into big changes. This self-compassion, this grace, truly empowers you to break free from old, limiting protocols and embrace sustainable, joyful growth.

Thank you for reminding me that “drink more water” doesn’t necessarily have to be a gallon a day to be a good goal🥺 I get so intimidated in drinking THAT much that I end up not drinking at all (or hardly at least obvs) 😭
