When Your Boss Doesn’t Listen…
EVER TRY TO WARN YOUR COMMANDER… AND HE DOES IT ANYWAY?
MikeJ captures one of the most relatable moments in military life: giving solid advice, getting ignored, then watching exactly what you predicted happen.
If you’ve lived this, tag your battle buddy and follow for more military humor!
In my years of service, I've often found myself in the exact situation where I try to warn my commander about a potential issue or course of action, only for my advice to be overlooked. It’s frustrating when you see a problem clearly and try to share your insight, but the decision-makers don’t listen. This typically happens because commanders have to make decisions balancing many factors, and sometimes they rely on their instincts or other information that may not be obvious to everyone. One memorable instance involved a training exercise where I cautioned against a risky maneuver due to safety concerns. Despite my warnings, the plan went ahead, and unsurprisingly, complications arose that could have been avoided. Moments like these highlight the importance of communication, respect, and mutual trust in military leadership. That said, it’s also a part of military life that builds resilience and camaraderie. Veterans supporting veterans understand these experiences deeply, and humor often becomes a coping mechanism. Sharing such anecdotes under hashtags like #MilitaryHumor, #MilitaryLife, and #VeteranHumor fosters a sense of community where service members can laugh and learn from these shared moments. I encourage others to tag their battle buddies who have been in similar situations and to keep sharing these real-life stories. It helps acknowledge the challenges in the chain of command and reminds us all that while our commanders may not always listen, the lessons learned from those moments shape us into better service members and veterans.
