How My Self-Care Routine Changed in Grad School

How My Self-Care Routine Changed in Grad School

After undergrad, i learned to prioritize my self care more and found that even when i went back to grad school, these habits stuck! Here are some things that helped me - try them out:

Morning mindset shift: trade Instagram scrolling for some light reading or even a 10-minute meditation - sounds so cliche but helps with stress MASSIVELY.

Exercise in the early morning: work out first thing in the morning, and you’ll feel better for the whole day!

Weekly reset ritual: Sunday evening outings traded for sessions at home with face masks and a journal became my tradition.

Many students find that integrating effective self-care strategies helps in managing stress and maintaining motivation. One powerful method is the morning mindset shift, which encourages students to replace passive activities like scrolling through social media with enriching habits such as reading or meditation. This simple change can significantly improve focus and reduce anxiety throughout the day. Moreover, early morning exercise has proven to be one of the most effective ways to boost energy and mental clarity. Engaging in physical activity before the day begins not only enhances mood but also fosters a sense of accomplishment that can carry through daily tasks. Lastly, establishing a weekly reset ritual, rather than opting for social outings, can provide a much-needed pause. Activities like journaling, applying face masks, or simply reflecting on the week can recharge the mind and body, preparing students for the week ahead. These practices, when consistently implemented, can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling grad school experience.
