I Resigned:

Embracing a New Chapter: A Journey of Self-Discovery

Welcome to my platform, a space dedicated to documenting my journey as an unemployed person navigating the uncertainties of life and seeking a new path. This is a platform where I intend to share the most raw, unfiltered version of myself—mistakes, imperfections, and all. I hope to connect with those who might find solace or inspiration in my story.

Embarking on a new chapter can be daunting, filled with anxiety and fear of the unknown. For the past 15 years, my career was my central focus, a relentless pursuit of proving myself through long nights, tears, and an unyielding drive to please others. My perfectionist tendencies led me to exhaustion and self-doubt, causing me to lose sight of who I truly was.

The Struggle for Perfection:

Throughout my career, the pressure to excel was constant. I felt the need to prove my worth—not just to my colleagues and superiors, but to myself. The fear of falling short loomed large, driving me to work harder and longer. This pursuit of perfection came at a significant personal cost.

The last few years were particularly challenging as I took on new roles with increasing responsibilities. The balancing act became precarious. The workload was heavy, demands were never-ending, and sleep was a luxury. Meals were skipped for the sake of deadlines, and health and home responsibilities suffered as I struggled to keep up.

The Toll of Overwork:

The emotional toll was significant, with countless nights of tears, overwhelming stress, and feelings of inadequacy. The pressure to be everything to everyone was suffocating, and I found myself trapped in a cycle of self-neglect.

Deciding to quit was not easy. It was a leap into the unknown, away from the familiar security, and an acknowledgment of my limits. Yet, it was essential for my health and happiness.

Moving Forward with Hope:

Standing on the brink of this new chapter, I am filled with hope and possibility. While the fear of the unknown still lingers, I am learning to embrace it. This transition offers growth and a chance to redefine success.

I am committed to prioritizing my well-being, nurturing my passions, and finding balance. This is a journey of self-discovery, and I am ready to embark on it with courage and resilience.

In sharing this story, I hope to connect with others facing similar struggles. Remember, it's never too late to make a change, prioritize yourself, and embrace new beginnings.

The exit from such a demanding routine often brings mixed emotions—relief, anxiety, and hope. Many who struggle with overwork may find that the path to self-discovery begins with acknowledging personal limits and prioritizing mental and physical wellness. It's important to recognize the signs of burnout early: exhaustion, stress, skipped meals, loss of sleep, and a declining sense of purpose. As shared in the story, this cycle is common among driven individuals who push themselves to meet unrealistic expectations. Quitting a stressful job isn't a failure but a necessary step to regain balance and redefine success on one's own terms. The transition phase after resignation can be filled with uncertainty, but it's also a valuable opportunity for personal growth. Embracing new hobbies, reconnecting with passions, and focusing on well-being can lead to a more fulfilling life. Platforms that share personal stories provide connection and encouragement, reminding us that it is never too late to change course. This journey also highlights how mental health awareness and self-compassion are critical in career decisions. Taking time to heal, reflect, and rebuild is an act of courage and resilience. Whether considering a break, career change, or new pursuits, prioritizing yourself is the foundation of long-term happiness and success. Remember, the story "I Resigned: The Exit Diaries" serves as a beacon for anyone feeling trapped by the pressures of perfectionism and overwork. It encourages embracing imperfections and finding hope in new beginnings, inspiring those who need to hear that they are not alone in their struggles.

I resigned
I used to enjoy working, I don’t quite know how to describe it but it was just fun spending time with colleagues, celebrating and struggling together. I enjoyed having the financial freedom to buy whatever I liked when I wanted to. I never thought I would be leaving my first full-time job so soon.

Don’t leave MOE before doing this!
The question I kept getting asked after I left MOE: “How did you prepare yourself financially before you resigned?” So I wrote it all down. Everything I did, and everything I wish I had done sooner is now a free checklist. Specifically for Singapore teachers thinking about what’s next.
