House / club song I’m working on 🖤
Hey everyone, since I mentioned I'm working on a new house/club track, I thought I'd dive a little deeper into what that actually entails and share some personal insights from my production journey. When I start a new house banger, it usually begins with a strong drum loop. For me, the kick drum is the heartbeat of any house track, so getting that punchy, driving rhythm right is crucial. I often spend a good amount of time experimenting with different samples and applying subtle compression to make it really cut through the mix. Next up, I usually move to the bassline. This is where the groove truly comes alive! I love experimenting with classic synth sounds – think a warm, analog-style bass that can both carry the melody and provide a solid foundation. Sometimes I'll just noodle around on my MIDI keyboard until a catchy progression emerges, other times I'll have a specific vibe in mind. Finding that perfect balance between simple and infectious is key. For melodies and pads, I often turn to my favorite VSTs. I've found that layering different synths can create a really rich and unique soundscape. One trick I've picked up is to keep the main melodic elements relatively simple and repetitive, which is characteristic of good house music, but then add subtle variations or counter-melodies to keep things interesting throughout the track. Automation is my best friend here – slowly opening up a filter or adding a touch of delay can breathe so much life into a static loop. Mixing and mastering are ongoing processes. I'm constantly referencing other tracks in the genre, trying to understand how they achieve their clarity and impact. It's a delicate balance of EQ, compression, and spatial effects to make sure every element has its own space without sounding muddy. I'm still learning every day, and honestly, that's what makes production so exciting! There's always a new technique to explore or a new plugin to master. One piece of advice I'd give to anyone looking to start producing house music is to just experiment. Don't be afraid to make 'bad' sounds or tracks, because that's how you discover what works for you. Listen to tons of different house subgenres, find what resonates, and try to understand what makes those tracks tick. Most importantly, have fun with it! The joy of creating something from scratch and imagining people dancing to it is incredibly rewarding. I can't wait to share more updates on this track soon!
