Number 1 pizza in the world?
Time Out ranked Mama’s Too the number 1 pizza in the world 🍕🌍
So I went to test three of their most talked about slices to see if that title is an exaggeration or a fact.
Cacio e Pepe was a 10 out of 10 and the only slice I would come back for. The combination of all four cheeses with that black pepper completely sold me.
The Poached Pear worked because of that sweet and savory balance between the honey, pear, and cheese. Unique and bold.
The Upside Down slice did not stand out to me. I have had better elsewhere and would not go back for that one.
Overall? Calling it the best pizza in the world feels like an exaggeration.
Would you try it?
worth the wander worth the wait💫

Having visited Mama’s Too myself, I can share a bit more about the experience and what sets this pizzeria apart despite the debate over its top ranking. The Cacio e Pepe slice is definitely a standout—rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced with the mix of mascarpone, mozzarella, Pecorino Romano, and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheeses, finished with that sharp cracked black pepper. It’s a slice I found absolutely memorable and would eagerly return for. What truly intrigued me was the Poached Pear slice. The interplay of sweet honey, tender poached pear, and savory aged mozzarella creates a bold flavor that’s uniquely delightful. It’s not the classic pizza flavor, but it offers a refreshing twist that broadens the pizza palate. However, not every slice lives up to expectation. I agree that the Upside Down slice, which flips the usual layering by putting mozzarella under the tomato sauce topped with Pecorino Romano, didn’t quite hit the mark for me. It felt less distinctive compared to other artisanal pizzas I’ve tried around New York City. The setting of Mama’s Too is intimate and cozy with limited seating, so arriving early or securing a spot after a short wait is essential. This adds to the charm and exclusivity of the experience. Overall, while I hesitate to call Mama’s Too the definitive best pizza globally, it certainly deserves recognition as a top contender in New York City. I encourage adventurous food lovers to try their signature slices and decide for themselves—sometimes the joy lies in experiencing the unexpected and savoring the craftsmanship behind each bite. Have you tried this place yet? It’s worth the wander and the wait if you appreciate unique, quality pizza in NYC.
