My favorite thing about
One of my favorite things about living in Sri Lanka? The wildlife.
Monkeys in the trees, peacocks calling at sunrise, lizards on the walls, and constant reminders that we’re sharing this place with so many other living beings. It’s humbling, grounding, and such a gift for our kids to grow up seeing nature like this- not a zoo, not a movie- in real life…. It feels really special. Like, follow, and share if you love Sri Lanka life, worldschooling, and raising kids through travel. #wildlife #srilanka #ceylon #worldschooling #safari
Living in Sri Lanka has given me a profound appreciation for the natural world, especially the abundant wildlife that lives just outside my doorstep. It’s unlike anything I experienced before moving here—the way monkeys effortlessly swing through trees and peacocks herald the dawn with their calls creates a vivid, immersive connection to nature that feels authentic and sustaining. One of the greatest joys is seeing how this environment shapes my children’s understanding of the world. They’re growing up not with wildlife confined to books or screens but as everyday neighbors. It instills a deep respect and curiosity, which I believe is invaluable. Observing lizards dart across walls or hearing the varied bird songs at sunrise grounds us daily, reminding us of our place within a larger ecosystem. For families interested in worldschooling, Sri Lanka offers a perfect setting for learning outside traditional classrooms. Nature becomes the teacher, and daily experiences fuel lessons in biology, ecology, and cultural appreciation. Apart from the wildlife, the rich history of the island—once known as Ceylon—adds layers to our learning journey, and occasional safaris further deepen our connection with the land. Living here also means embracing a slower rhythm, where wildlife encounters encourage mindfulness and presence. Whether it’s a sudden glimpse of a monkey family or the distant call of birds, these moments enrich our days and encourage gratitude for the simple gifts around us. Sharing this life on social platforms allows me to connect with others who love Sri Lanka and support families raising kids through travel, fostering a community bonded by shared experiences and love for this unique place.
