A rough history.
Manchester Cathedral, located in the heart of the city, is a historic church with roots since 1215 by Baron Robert Greslet, originally a Parish Church, before being developed into the city's main temple, characterized by Gothic architecture, 16th-century wood carving, and still open to the present day.
The History and Significance of Manchester Cathedral
Beginning: The original building was first built in 1215 to serve as the Parish Church of Manchester by Baron Robert Greslet.
Collegiate Church: In 1421, the manor master Thomas DeLaware established a college church for the parish, which now became the location of the Shetam Library and the Shetem School of Music.
Architecture: Although restored many times in the following centuries, it retains its beautiful Gothic architecture, featured in the 15th-century carved "Music Gods" (Angels) and the wood carvings under the choir seats, or Misericords, in the 16th century.
Today: It serves as the cathedral of the city and is part of the Church of England, located near major attractions such as Harvey Nichols department store and the remains of a historic bridge.
The cathedral is considered one of the old and important historical symbols of the city of Manchester combining old beliefs, culture and artwork.
