i need to revisit this paradise again 🌺

2024/12/11 Edited to

... Read moreOh, Kailua-Kona! Just thinking about my last trip there makes me want to book a flight back to this Hawaiian paradise. If you're wondering what makes Kailua-Kona on the Big Island so special, or what amazing things there are to do, trust me, it's more than just beautiful beaches – though those are incredible too! First off, Kailua-Kona is famously known as the heart of the Kona Coffee Belt. You absolutely have to visit a coffee farm. The tours are fascinating, and tasting fresh Kona coffee right where it's grown is an experience you won't forget. Beyond coffee, this vibrant town is steeped in rich Hawaiian history. I loved exploring Hulihe‘e Palace, a former vacation home for Hawaiian royalty, right on Ali’i Drive. And right next door is Mokuaikaua Church, Hawaii's first Christian church – the architecture alone is worth seeing! For a truly spiritual and historical glimpse, Ahu’ena Heiau, King Kamehameha I’s personal temple, is a serene and powerful spot. When it comes to tourist attractions and activities, Kailua-Kona is an ocean lover's dream. The snorkeling here is out of this world! I spent hours at Kahalu’u Beach Park, which is known for its calm waters and abundant marine life – perfect for beginners and experienced snorkelers alike. But the real highlight for me was a night-time manta ray dive. Swimming with those gentle giants under the moonlight was an indescribable, almost magical experience. If diving isn't your thing, there are plenty of boat tours that offer fantastic opportunities for spotting dolphins and, during winter, humpback whales. And for those who love to fish, Kailua-Kona is world-renowned for big-game fishing, especially marlin. One of my favorite relaxing spots was a beautiful, tranquil area I refer to as The Lagoon. It’s perfect for just floating, swimming, and soaking up the Hawaiian sun away from the bigger waves. It felt like my own little slice of heaven! The calm, clear waters were ideal for kids and just unwinding after a day of exploration. While Kailua-Kona offers so much, if you have a little extra time and want a change of scenery, a drive up to Kamuela (also known as Waimea) is highly recommended. It’s a bit of a contrast to the sunny coast, offering cooler, upcountry ranch lands and the famous Parker Ranch. It's a beautiful drive and gives you a different perspective of the Big Island's diverse landscapes. You can explore some local art galleries or enjoy a meal in its charming small-town atmosphere. Honestly, Kailua-Kona has it all – history, adventure, delicious food, and breathtaking natural beauty. It’s truly a destination that captures your heart and leaves you longing to return. Every time I think of the warm breezes, the smell of plumeria, and the stunning sunsets, I just know I need to revisit this paradise again soon!
