here’s how to make them⤵️
📝Ingredients:
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, softened
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla bean paste or gel
1 egg yolk
1 tsp fresh lemon juice
1 tsp salt
6–8 fresh strawberries, thinly sliced
1 egg (for egg wash)
1 tsp water(for egg wash)
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Whipped cream, for serving (optional)
🗒️Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, sugar, salt, vanilla bean gel, egg yolk, and lemon juice until smooth and creamy. Transfer the mixture to a piping bag and set aside.
2. Roll out your thawed puff pastry sheet and cut it into 6 equal rectangles. Place the rectangles on a parchment lined baking sheet.
3. Pipe a generous amount of the cream cheese filling into the center of each pastry rectangle. Top each one with 8–10 thin strawberry slices.
4. Beat 1 egg and 1 tsp water & lightly brush the edges of the puff pastry with the egg wash.
Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 16–20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and puffed.
5. Let the danishes cool completely on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Optional:
Serve as is or top with a dollop of whipped cream like I did🫶🏾
Making strawberries & cream Danish at home can be an absolute joy, especially when you embrace the simplicity and freshness of the ingredients. The key to perfect danishes is using high-quality puff pastry, as it creates those irresistible flaky layers that melt in your mouth. When I first tried this recipe, I was amazed at how the cream cheese mixture, combined with a touch of vanilla bean paste and fresh lemon juice, adds a subtle tang that complements the sweetness of the strawberries beautifully. For those who enjoy experimenting, I recommend trying different types of cream cheese — like mascarpone or whipped cream cheese—to vary the creaminess and texture. Also, instead of granulated sugar, brown sugar can add a hint of caramel flavor. When it comes to assembling, piping the cream cheese filling neatly in the center of each pastry rectangle helps contain the juicy strawberries and prevents the filling from spilling out during baking. Be generous with the strawberry slices; fresh, ripe berries bring natural sweetness and vibrant color. Egg wash is crucial for achieving that glossy golden crust. I always brush the pastry edges and a light layer over the entire surface before baking at 400°F for about 18 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Don’t rush cooling—the danishes set better, and dusting powdered sugar adds a lovely touch of sweetness and elegance. Serving these danishes with a dollop of fresh whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream elevates the dessert for special occasions. Alternatively, enjoy them warm with a cup of tea or coffee for a perfect morning treat. This recipe also lends itself well to customization; try adding other fruits like blueberries, raspberries, or even peaches for seasonal variations. The versatility and simplicity of this strawberries & cream Danish make it a go-to recipe for home bakers looking to impress without stress.
