My Journey as an Elementary School Educator
My journey has been unique. Here’s my story ✨
My name is Jacqueline💛
After high school, I did not plan on going to college. I had no one to look up to as I was the first in my family to go to college; so I took a year off and worked.
My jobs were not secure and I had no plan. I did not like this part of my life! So I decided to make a change.
I enrolled at a technical college and got denied. I had good grades in school, but unfortunately, I had just moved to Georgia and this college required me to live in Georgia for 2 years. I did not want to wait. I was afraid I was going to lose the motivation of continuing my education.
I enrolled at a university (UNG), which in the moment I thought was a waste of money because I wasn’t that smart, but I thought, “Why not!” 3 months later…. I was accepted by UNG!! I was ecstatic!
The day of orientation came and the big question arose, “What field of study will you take?”
Me: “Umm I’m not sure yet, but my dream has always been to be a teacher. I’m not sure what grade, yet.”
Advisor: “Okay, are you fluent in Spanish? I can enroll you as Modern Language as your field of study. You can practically teach with your Spanish degree.”
Me: “Okay, sounds like a plan!”
4years go by and I am no where in sight near to graduation! Meanwhile, my classmates are getting their degrees and careers in place. Why am I taking so long!? I’ve taken may-mesters, summer semesters, and was a full time student! I have spoken to my advisor every semester about my classes. Why is it taking FOREVER!!
