🌸 A Poem I Wrote ✨

She Kept Blooming

They mistook my silence for surrender,

never realizing

I was gathering the strength

to survive storms

they never even noticed.

There were days

when grief sat beside me

longer than joy ever could,

when my heart carried names

my lips could no longer speak,

when goodbye came

without permission,

without closure,

without mercy.

I have learned

that some of the deepest wounds

aren’t left by strangers—

they’re carved by the hands

you once trusted

to protect your heart.

Still…

I chose kindness.

Not because the world deserved it,

but because I refused

to become

what had broken me.

I have watered gardens

I would never get to sit in.

I have lit candles

for people

who left me standing in the dark.

I have prayed

for hearts

that forgot

mine was beating too.

Maybe that’s what love really is.

Not loud.

Not perfect.

Not always returned.

But present.

Steady.

Unshaken.

There is a quiet kind of courage

in waking up

after life has tried

to convince you

that your story is over.

There is beauty

in choosing hope

with trembling hands.

There is power

in refusing

to let bitterness

write the ending.

So if you ever wonder

what became of the girl

who was overlooked,

forgotten,

left outside the room

where everyone else said goodbye…

Tell them this:

She became a woman

who turned her tears

into rivers of compassion.

Who built dreams

with hands

that once only knew

how to hold broken pieces.

Who discovered

that even shattered glass

can catch the sunlight.

And if the world

never fully understands her

that’s okay.

Flowers

have never needed permission

to bloom.

They simply reach

for the light,

again

and again,

until one day

they become

the very thing

someone else

needed to believe

was still possible.

... Read moreReading this poem reminded me deeply of my own journey of healing after difficult experiences. I once faced a time when silence was misinterpreted, and my grief was invisible to others. Like the poem describes, I was quietly gathering strength to survive challenges that seemed unseen by the outside world. What resonated most was the theme of choosing kindness—not because the world always deserves it, but as an act of self-preservation and courage. I found that in moments when pain threatened to overwhelm me, responding with compassion, both towards myself and others, became an unexpected source of power. The imagery of watering gardens that one may never sit in truly illustrates the often invisible labor of love and hope. In my own life, I have invested in relationships and causes that didn’t always return my efforts, yet these acts nurtured my spirit and fostered growth beyond what was immediately visible. The idea that love is steady, present, and sometimes unreturned offers a profound reminder that our worth and capacity to love do not depend on reciprocation or perfection. This insight has helped me embrace imperfection and uncertainty in relationships with greater peace. Most inspiring is the metaphor of shattered glass catching sunlight—how brokenness can create unexpected beauty and light. It encouraged me to view my own scars and setbacks not as flaws but as facets reflecting resilience. Poetry like this serves as a quiet beacon for anyone feeling overlooked or left behind. It’s a reminder that just like flowers that bloom without asking for permission, we can continuously grow and become something beautiful, even if the world doesn’t always understand our journey. Overall, this poem speaks to the quiet courage found in choosing hope each day and refusing to let bitterness define the narrative. It’s a message that resonates deeply with anyone navigating the complexities of healing, loss, and self-discovery.
