Amid a wave of fiercely competitive electric cars around the world, Tesla is back to creating another jarring. With the preparation to launch an "economy version of the Model Y," which many parties expect to take place on October 7. While not a completely new model structurally, this may be the key betel that Tesla uses to turn the game around to go down and fight in a market that is being hijacked by Chinese manufacturers.

Back in 2020, Elon Musk once pledged that Tesla would develop an electric car costing only $25,000 to the market. Despite the tide of hope being ignited that day, from that date on, the car has never officially appeared. There are only metaphysical assertions and ambiguities from Tesla executives until as early as 2025, Tesla began to defuse a new model at a "more tangible price," but there was no real sign of a launch until it was reported that Tesla had started a preliminary production line of cheaper models last June.

Although Tesla does not call this new model a "new model," many sources point out that this is a reduced-feature version of the Model Y, which relies on the original structure but slices the cost to create a new selling point at a "price" directly under the internal name "Model Y E41." This model has been seen frequently in prototype form in recent months, and more recently teaser images have been released, including specification data, through Tesla's own website and software.

According to the images and data coming out, the new Model Y will not have a panoramic glass roof, which was one of the main selling points of the original model. The wheels are redesigned to be cheaper with a simpler wheel cover than their predecessors. The side mirrors cannot fold electrically, while the suspension itself is lowered to more common.

The interior of the cabin has also changed. Tesla opted for cheaper materials, linings, a single-axis adjustable cushion, and a reduction in lighting inside the car to look "modest" rather than luxurious as before. Despite maintaining the Tesla simplicity concept, the overall picture clearly reflects that this is a "car born for a tangible price."

Tesla opts for a rear-wheel drive motor with an LFP battery, which, while not a battery with a high energy density as NMC, is significantly lower in cost and suitable for use in non-freezing weather. The new model is expected to run a range of about 250 - 300 miles, or about 400 - 485 kilometers per charge, enough for daily use or medium-distance travel.

Currently, the Model Y Long Range RWD has an initial sale price of around $45,000 in the US. If Tesla wants the new Model Y to comply with Elon Musk's original pledge that "there will be an EV for $25,000," the right price should be between $30,000 - $35,000 (970,000 - 1,130,000 baht), a price level that can compete with Chinese manufacturers. 🤩🤩
